Anything that says "participation required" is suspect.

That one says "survey" though. Alot of marketing companies offer entry into drawings for prizes for completing surveys. It's just a matter of making sure they're a legitimate marketing/research firm.

I haven't had time for any surveys lately!

I have a separate email just for sweeping. I can just about tell without opening which emails are bogus. For sites, I installed a little program that warns me on dangerous sites. "Web of trust" You can find it here. http://www.mywot.com/

I too have a seperate email account just for sweeps and stuff and usually can tell immed. by the subj. line. However one nice win did go to my spam and it was from a monthly one time entry from Lucky Breaks (of which I have won 3 - 4 prizes from them) BUT the email came from the actual prize company of Evelyn and Crabtree. So if I hadnt opened it in the spam I would not have known I won a $100 of their products. I dont think I had to click on any confirmation link so it would have been one of those surprise deliveries by fed ex etc... which my very first prize win just happened to be a surprise delivery of $300 worth of Kinerase products so since that day I was hooked. Also my brother is a comp geek and I wasn't sure of one of the emails so I forwarded it to him and I think he just entered the url in a search engine and it didnt even show up so he sent me info that it was no good. So if that sounds correct to any of you computer geeks (not an insult by the way---a definate compliment)... can u let me know. If I enter the URL into a search engine and nothing even comes up then does that mean it is bogus??? Thanks

What you do to find out the actual email address it's coming from, right click on the email link and then go down to "Properties" and click on that. It will bring up the email information.

Re: weird winning email notifications to look for

:spam:For you guys trying to go through your spam looking for winner notifications: If you have google email, you can use an option that lets you know whether mail has been sent to just you or to you and a thousand others as well. If the message is just to you (this might be a winner's notification) it will be preceded by <<. If it was mass mailed it will be preceded by >. This helps a lot in knowing what to ignore and what to open up and investigate. Hope this helps someone. :sunny:

That really does vary on a couple of things. Sometimes sites won't show up in a search result because they have not been crawled by the spiders. That takes at least a few weeks sometimes if the site isn't linked to by other sites. Some companies keep their pages out of search engines for various business related reasons.
