    Yes- on Trip to Ireland

Won a trip for 2 to Ireland back in 2002. I think it was originally for 4 days 3 nights. I asked the sponsor (through the Sweep Administrator) if I could extend my trip IF THERE WAS NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THEM. They said fine and I spent 12 days there total. So the first 4 days/3nights were on the Sponsor as well as the airfare to and from. It worked out great. As long as it didn't add to the cost of the prize (and it didn't), I don't think the Sponsor cared. They were going to spring for 2 round trip tix on Aire Lingus anyway. So, go for it. It does not hurt to ask. Just don't ask for pie in the sky!

We've never had a problem with extending or adding on on any of our trips. I've only seen like one person on any board say they were told no due to some particular circumstance. As long as you are paying for the extra costs out of your pocket, it should almost never be a problem, it's not really changing anything on the sponsor's end.

We've gone on 5 trips and have 2 more upcoming ones, and we always pay whatever extra expenses there are to bring our children--mainly the extra seats on the plane. Every sponsor said it was no problem.

Hostaddict, you said "I see so many trip sweeps that I would enter, but for me to travel for a 10 hr flight and then have 2 nights at the destination is tough. I see where there is one to Hawaii for 2 nights. You would just get there and spend the first night and have one full day and night and time to come home."

I think most folks enter those sweeps that offer a 1-2 night stay in Europe/Asia with the EXPECTATION that the trip can be extended to something more worthwhile (like 10-12 days). And let the Sponsor pay the airfare. Otherwise, my opinion, a 2-day trip to Paris or Hawaii would simply NOT be worth it. --- Ed

I agree, Ed. That is why I was wondering just how many people were able to add extra days to one of these shorter trips. It is very encouraging to read the responses and to know that option is probably available. I remember the Paris trip that was 2 days and I just couldn't imagine not being able to extend that. :sunny: I know a gal locally that won couple of those trips here in the USA and did just go for the 2 days. Maybe she never asked or wanted to extend. I realize there are many who can only get away for a couple days because of work, etc. Thanks everyone for the responses.

Re: Has anyone been able to extend a winning trip?

Last year I won three trips (Washington DC, Los Angeles, New York City) and this year I have won one (Las Vegas). Out of the four trips, we were able to extend three by arrangement with the sponsor's contest coordinator. Of course, we paid for the additional nights' hotel stays (in different, less expensive hotels, since we are cheapskates). The only trip we didn't extend (the Washington DC one) we probably could've extended if we had tried, but my husband's work schedule was such that we didn't have the additional free time.

If you want to extend your stay, be sure to make this clear IMMEDIATELY when you respond to the winning notice, before airline reservations have been made.

Another note: one of our wins (the NYC one) was supposed to be 2 nights in a fancy hotel for 4 people (2 rooms). We didn't want to drag extra people along, so we asked the sweeps sponsor to pay for 4 nights for 2 people (one room), and we arranged three more nights that we paid for at a cheapo hotel. So we got seven nights in all, plus the airfare both ways, which we could never have afforded.

I hope this makes sense. I am feeling fairly daffy today, and I worry that everything I write may be gibberish. Hardening of the smarteries is tough on an old gal like me. :crazytongue:

Today I won a 2 night trip to LA. I just emailed them back asking about the possibility of an extension on our dime... wish me luck! I will keep you posted. fingers crossed. Too much to see in just a couple of days.

Has anyone asked about extending the Coors Light college football fly away trips? I know there are 20 grand prize trips, and just wondering if anyone knows of those are extendable? Thanks.

Re: Has anyone been able to extend a winning trip?

I won a trip to a NASCAR race in Atlanta from Coors a couple of years ago and extended the flight home by 1 day in case there was a rain out and the race wasn't run until the next day. When I won a trip from Gillette Young Guns a couple of years before the Coors win the trip was for 3 or 4 days (don't remember which) and we extended it to 7. We went to a NASCAR race in CA for that one and they were to pay for our rental car for the days we were there so what they did was send us a check for what the 3 day rental would have been and then we paid for the car for the week. They had no problem scheduling our flight home later. But be sure to ask immediately, before they make ANY of your travel arrangement because with all the change fees the airlines charge I am sure once the reservations are made they won't change them. Good Luck and have fun!

Just wondered if it is possible to take one of these little jaunts and make it into 5 or 6 days at least. Not sure if certain sweeps administrators would allow this.
When I won the closer sweeps last year to new mexico ,TNT allowed me to extend my stay by 2 days as long as I paid for the hotel those 2 days. They just adjusted the flight dates
