So sorry to hear about your friends. Must be the same airline my brother and his family had tickets to go to Napa Valley during the kids spring break. 3 days before they were to leave they found out and had to repurchase tickets somewhere else. Sadly they are out all the money they spend on their original tickets. Needless to say he was not a happy camper. He purchased his thru Hotwire and they basically told him "Sorry about your luck"!

Make sure you find out what court the company filed for bankruptcy with and file a claim as soon as possible to get reimbursed for the tickets. Payouts work on a first-come, first-serve basis.

So I am obviously back from San Antonio. I saw the Marriott hotel which is literally right next to the rivercenter mall and on the riverwalk. So its in a prime location. I had dinner twice on the riverwalk... once at Joe Crab Shack (because I love their BBQ Dungeness Crab) and then we tried a Mexican Restaurant which was So-So. There is a bar called Coyote Ugly, which seemed to be the only cool bar I saw there. I had dinner at the Towers of the Americas. Which was awesome! Very much like a space needle in Seattle. The food is pricey but well worth it. Right next to the Towers of the Americas is the The King William Disrict. Homes that were built in the 1800s a block of them... they look like New Orlean style homes and definately look haunted. A lot of them are fenced in and you can't go inside but they are right next to the Convention Center so check them out while you are there in the park. You guys are going to have so much fun, I wish I was going. Hope all is going well!!!

If somebody is not yet registered and wants to go, I will sell my registeration to you for a lower price. I am not feeling that well lately and don't want to wait until the last minute and not feel well and lose $160.
Just let me know

I signed up last year but I have a mother who is undocumented and probably would not fly let alone take a train to texas. Not done sweeping in 5 months to a year. no money, no hotel room so that is way too late for a good one, no transportaion,
I os wanted to go but mother is the primary problem. As I can sleep in the park, take a cheap flight and live on tacos and enchiladas from dives. I have travelled on an empty pocketbook before but what to do with mother.

Can't go, nope. Household expenses (taxes, utilities and repairs) are very onerous now. Maybe next time.

If she is on Medicare you are entitled to a certain number of "respite care" days per year http://www.aarp.org/health/medicare/traditional/a2003-04-28-orginalmedicareA.html" Respite care is short-term care given to you so that your caregiver can get some rest, run errands or get away for a few days." You Mother's doctor or social worker should be able to tell you more.

Nope cannot do respite care as she is mentally fragile. At times like an autistic kid and other times and grown woman. I need to get her papers here then take the train and that would cost so much money, no room so it is impossible. I so miss sweeping and my friends. I want to go there and WDW but know that unlike kids or dogs I am saddled with her.
Last trip I called the motel and we went down to Long Beach that night., I try to not be a quitter or not have faith but in this case there is no option unless I win a winnebago, lol.

I will need respite care for mom. Soimeone to do breakfast, dinner and check in on her. Commode emptying also.
I checked and Amtrack is more than a plane ride and very hard on my health and costs a lot to eat. I would have to fly out of LAX to SAT no later than August 28th and leave on the 2 or 3rd.
I would take mom's extra wheelchair though in amusement parks it is easier to use an ECV (scooter). "Psst, lady, I will give you a book of stamps if you push me in the chair." lol. Anyways that would help me out.
Days Inn San Antonio/AT&T Center 4039 East Houston Street I-10 & E. Houston St, Exit 579 San Antonio, TX 78220 US
It is about 4 miles east of the convention and a spare bed. Costt with AAA or AARP is $294. Nonsmoking and anyone want to share let me know.
I could find a cheap dive to eat at maybe.
Anyone have cheap airfare and room please advise as Leaving on a wednesday would cost about $250 on soutwest airlines. I have aarp, aaa and am disabled. I haev many airline and hotel things like Marriot rewards program.

It is in San Antonio. IF I could get a roomie in the convention hotel I would stay there but right now I am way out in no man's land but it is cheap.
I need a break like hot shower, privacy, a bed that is working.

I need a room mate desperately. $300 and it is the 27th through the 31. You can arrive the 28th. about $90 to upgrade to the concierge level. Crosses fingers and hopes for a kind room mate.
They never tell until during the convention who gets the next one though sometimes they are pretty sure ahead of time. Atlanta, yeah.

OK I have found your post here and I wish I could have worked this out. I didn't have the money to sign up earlier to get a ticket and to be honest that money just keeps geting tighter. I hope you can find someone to room with you and that you have a good time. I have no idea how much a person can get out of these conventions but with gas and everything else as expensive as it is I would have a hard time coming up with about $500 to cover all expenses for this trip.

The costs would be the room, aobut $100 bus fare, and the convention. I go to have fun. I cannot go lower than that unless I got like 4 people but that would be crowded. Maybe someone would be able to help but I am dreaming.
instead of a car I would rent an ECV, I am stupid to want this and do not sweep like I used to and friends aer mostly gone, I do not remember 99% of the people here.
Note added: It would be nice to have people help me out but I left BAR's site and remember the people begging and hinting for help. It would be nice for someone to walk up to me and hand me $1000 but this is not his site so I will not ask, hint or beg. SA is a palace and a home not the slums, nope. Hugs. I am very depressed because of mom and not because of the trip.

Exit the Marriott Riverwalk Hotel onto Comerce St. Keep your back to the Hotel and stick your right hand out, the other right., sigh. Go east to Bowie St. On the Northwest corner is the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel. Your hotel is between Market and and Commerce and across the street from the convention. I could move up to concierge level an let the 3 of you share my room, lol. $200 each. ========================== http://toweroftheamericas.com/360.htmlthis opens on the freeway Turn this so you go to your left. keep the freeway on your right. As you turn you see two massive tall building Marriot Riverwalk is the smaller one in the foreground. Marriot Rivercenter is the biggerone in the back and has a spire on top. you are about a third mile to half mile walk to Alamo and accross the street from the Hemisfair Urban Park.

And then you go on to tell Champ if you upgraded, her and her friends could share your room if they paid you $200 each. You've been hinting and then begging about someone "helping you out" to go on this trip. Here's what I think and I am not trying to be mean to you. There are far too many obstacles in your way for you to go on this trip. The biggest being you cannot afford it. I know it must be disappointing for you but it is what it is. No one on here is going to offer to take care of your mother either, I'm sorry to say. Again, not trying to hurt your feelings. Just trying to help you see this situation realistically.

My husband, Bob, and I are going to the National Convention, but I smoke (evil, evil, evil), so we won't be staying in the Marriott Convention Center - it's completely smoke free, even the guest rooms (as are all of the Marriott hotels). We live in Austin, so I don't know if we will go back and forth, or stay at a non-smoke free hotel. There are a few of them left, even in San Antonio. I am a courteous smoker - I put my "butts" away, not on the sidewalk or ground; I don't smoke around other non-smokers; I smoke outside, and in the garage or patio at home, not inside, but I enjoy smoking before going to bed, without going outside in a strange town. (Well, San Antonio is not "strange" to us, but you know what I mean ) So, I will take a break every hour or so during the convention, and go outside to smoke.... So, if you don't want to meet me, I understand. Kate
