My husband, Bob, and I are going to the National Convention, but I smoke (evil, evil, evil), so we won't be staying in the Marriott Convention Center - it's completely smoke free, even the guest rooms (as are all of the Marriott hotels). We live in Austin, so I don't know if we will go back and forth, or stay at a non-smoke free hotel. There are a few of them left, even in San Antonio.  I am a courteous smoker - I put my "butts" away, not on the sidewalk or ground; I don't smoke around other non-smokers; I smoke outside, and in the garage or patio at home, not inside, but I enjoy smoking before going to bed, without going outside in a strange town. (Well, San Antonio is not "strange" to us, but you know what I mean  ) So, I will take a break every hour or so during the convention, and go outside to smoke.... So, if you don't want to meet me, I understand. Kate Well, you're better than I am. I burn those babies up, especially when entering sweeps! |

I need to get away from my mother. Anyone wanting to hear a litany of daily abuse can have it but I need to get to the convention. I just want to be in a place where I am not crying because someone is screaming at me and reminding me of every failure in my life, what is it like to have a hot shower each day or be able to sleep until you have to pee or are thoroughly rested? Today I slept 4 hours straight and about 6 hours straight, that was the first time in a week I had slept more than 2 to 3 hours at a time or gotten 6 hours sleep in one day. What is it like to have someone pout and say there is one cracker left so she will starve but look there are 3 unopened boxes of crackers setting over in the other room, just ask, what is that like? If you knew the hell I go through with that woman on top of my mental and physical problems then you would understand my desire to run away. All I want is a few days of quiet and peace and friendship and sleep.
The concierge level is sold out. For $80 more it would have meant access to light meals, snacks and use of a concierge. I am grabbing at straws as I am desperate to go and right now will do almost anything to go. I am going as I have airfare and the convention. I can pack homemade food for the trip and maybe even take tins of tuna and peanut butter. I did it in Moline and I can do it now.
I think we could use a subforum for the conventions. I would like to see a list of who is going.
I AM GOING.
I am looking for a roommate and the total cost is for 2 people is $600. If I could get it then a triple would be $about 700 and quad $950. It is weird but for 3 it is $150 and 4 is $150.

I am glad you are going and I hope it all works out for you. Also if you ever just need to vent I can call you any time. I don't mind and as I said I would love to get to know you. I really wished I could have pulled this all off. |

Churchy, what are you doing with your mother? You said you won't leave her at home and you're bringing her along to San Antonio. You also said you'll need volunteers to feed her and empty her commode.
Is she included in room deal, along with yourself and the hoped-for roommates? How are you paying for her airfare? Is she going to the convention? I don't see how you can leave her in the room by herself while everybody else is out partying. If you're bringing her along, you're not really getting away from her.

Mom is staying home, I have some one coming in to bring dinner. She just needs housekeeping, laundry, dinner and commode. Tracy from Rosewood Restaurant will come by on the 27th, 28th and 29th. I have friends maybe in the restaurant who will help, not sure.
I may borrow $200 from my aunt.
I have the airfare and mom cared for for all but two days. I will just go on faith and plan to eat tuna in a tin and be happy and free on a park bench if need be but I am not staying th this dump any more. I have enough money that we could take trips twice a year but she will not travel and not even to the museum. She will not sell the house and move to a condo where she would be a queen who has every thing. She has to do things her way and NOW.

Have you spoken with her doctor about her ability to live independently and about her mental status? One of my dear friends was recently placed in the unenviable position of having to have her Mother declared incompetent and establishing a guardinship to manage her Mother's affairs. It was all dreadfully painful for the entire family, but now that her Mother is in an assisted living facility she is doing much better. The Mother had let drug users into the house and they were robbing her blind. They even took her furniture out and sold it in the front yard! |

If we sold that house last year we would have had enough for two homes and she could have had maid service, a fine home, and we could have lived like queens.
Right now I would move back east to cheap land and live there as a Queen in a Mansion, 3 bedr9o, lol.
She does not need me. IF we moved then she could have a wheelchair user friendly home. She could set up the dining room with a microwave so she coulld have coffee in the dining room. SHE DOES NOT NEED ME. She should be able to walk but was too scared and waited to long to get help, the hospital's fault. IF we had the ideal house she could get cold water and food and cook with out me. Many paraplegics live alone so dont tell me that she cannot do everything by herself. SHE DOES NOT NEED ME. IF we had the ideal home she would not need a commode. She could roll right up to the fridge. She is one sharp cookie and her memory is far better than mine.
I will never ever ever put her in a home again, them people are mean, hurtful and make the disabled and senior worse than poo. They lock them o9ld people in warehouses of the undead who wait for death while clapping to stupid nonsense songs, worshiping in chapel when they are not that religion, being hauled naked down coridors, and beaten, raped, screamed at, ignored, and allowed to lie in their waste because someone was not caring.
I am going to the convention and this thread has gone toward my mom, sorry folks.

I just found out the 2009 convention is in Manchester, NH in July. I already booked my room and will register soon. I've never been to a sweeps convention and since this one is 6 hrs away, I am making it my plan to attend! Here is the link.. www.nh2009.com |

well, it looks like the casino on friday night is out of the question.. no one wants 2 drive 2+ hours to get there.... ohhh well, guess we'll have to find some strip clubs to hit up... we made reservations 4 mortons steakhouse for saturday...... we are sooo friggin' stoked... sooo excited...  |

Definitely going up to Avenue B to the Aussie Bakery to get gluten free pizza and bread. I do not have the hair, clothes or money for Morton's. $30 for steak when I can go to a nice restaurant and get two dinners. Fiesta Texas is only open weekends and Labour Day so unless someone stays over a night that is out. Casinos for 4 hours on the road, cant go to casinos due to religion but mainly am a gambler and if I get in a mood will keep loosing money even though I know I am loosing. WOOT AND YIPPEE Mom just reminded me that because of Labour Day weekend I will be getting paid on Friday which means I will have about $300 for food and ground transportation on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Mom is now using about 15 packages of Depends a month so I need to find a cheap place for them. Yes I have to pay $160 to $250 a month on adult diapers, scream but I will find it some how cheaper. Plan A is to stay with tinymomo and plan B is to get roommates but I really like the idea of concierge and free food and drinks. More trip financial news is that I am owed a few pennies by Verizon which is the DSL and phone but cannot afford the gas bill, lol, it is $4. I over paid last month apparently. That is about $70 to $80 not having to pay next month woot. I am climbing the mountain aka my dream trip.  |

I called to double check the room reservation, and they said it was canceled. I said "WHAT?" The card I used to hold the room expired on June 30th. So now we are out of a room. There is nothing left at that hotel, and I have called 3 surrounding hotels now too, and there is nothing because there are a bunch of insurance people in town for a convention too. So now I am looking for a room, and I may not even go now, at least my plane ticket is refundable. I am really really pissed off right now--- churchy I sent you a PM as well. This stinks.  |

ATTENTION, I STILL HAVE MY ROOM. Call me if you were staying with Tinny and tiny also. Right now we could do one person outside of town and rent a car. That would be $950 room, $200 car, $250 room outside of town and parking. $1400 total is still $300 a person. Plan B is for 3 people to bunk with me and that is about $950 so we are talking about $240 each. Contact me if you were with tinymomo and I will put you up in the Rivercentre. I have to talk to the Hotel about the rate for 4 people.  |

I have no way of getting a roommate to pay in advance. No seaworld. No around the place transpertation. I so wanted to go to San Antonio but unless someone can tell me one reason why I should go and how I am to afford this trip then it is off,
I will work on changing the room last minute for a cheap hotel and stay there and come back early, LIE TO MOTHER AND FRIENDS. I will take a vacation but when WDW is $69 a night plus tax and I can stay in a motel in Indiana for under $50 a night why go to San Antonio.
I left other site as I have ADD SID and quirks. I cannot believe that people enjoy and get thrills out of hurting other people. So what if I was happy and planning things. So waht if I was on the phone to the hotel, who pays for that? so what if I had all my dreams dashed.
I GIVE UP. Everything is gone and i am too tired to continue on to the convention.
