 For a preteen boy?

On his nose and he's getting it bad.

He's tried Carley's clear.. didn't work.

Anyone try proactive? Suggestions besides a dermitologist? He's not THAT bad, it's around his nose but his skin and hair are so oily.

He's tried a lot of stuff over the counter and will be in Jr High school next year. I never had acne, so I never had an issue but I remember how mean some kids are.  nono

My sister had horrible acne growing up. She used proactive, and it totally cleared up. But now after she had her two kids, money is tight, and she cant afford proactive anymore, so her acne is back. But it did work when she used it.

Also if his hair is real oily, try and make sure that his hair stays away from his face, and tell him not to touch his face alot.

I have been through real problems with this myself and finally figured out a good inexpensive system through trial and error.

First, he should change and wash his pillowcases at least once a week, in warm or hot water, more often if possible.

Then, I most highly recommend that he wash his face twice daily with this: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=16823&catid=21222

It is important to get the skin cleanser Cetaphil, not the face one. The face one is too harsh to use twice daily. Sounds crazy, but a dermatologist recommended it, and once I tried it, I never looked back. It costs a bit, but you only need about a dime sized squirt so the bottle lasts a long time.

Last, try giving him 1000 mg of vitamin C twice a day. It speeds healing, and makes your body chemistry slightly acidic, which inhibits bacterial growth.

Hope this helps!!  sunny

Proactive is all marketing-its just a way of getting you to pay wayyyy too much for the same two over the counter acne treatments you can get generic at Walmart for $3 (with some stuff to make them smell better) It works, but it costs too much for what you are getting....
Its just benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid (plus advertising laughing)
http://www.skincarephysicians.com/acnenet/treatotc.html
Carley's "Industrial Strength formula for teen acne" contains only 5% benzoyl peroxide, which is laughable, because I use the Equate 10% benzoyl peroxide twice a day for my mild middle aged woman acne and it barely keeps that under control. crazy tongue
The topical antibiotics or  Retin-A from your physician would probably be cheaper (and more effective) than proactive.

headbang  For an  economical treatment for acne/pimples dissolve aspirin which is salicylic acid in water and dap on acne/pimples.  Also zinc supplements. Zinc is great for healing wounds and also promotes healthy hair. http://www.herballuxuries.com/zinc.htm
