I'm a sunbather or tanning bed chick. I've been trying to change all of that and quit tanning last October. I had been tanning for a little over a year. With the last 3 days of really nice, sunny, beautiful weather, I've been feeling the urge to go tanning(too cold yet to sun bathe) and decided I would try a sunless tanner. So, yesterday I shaved my legs, exfoliated, and applied the sunless tanner. I made sure to apply it in a thin, even layer. I wake up this morning and my legs are dry and each leg has a small streak. Now I know I applied it right and rubbed it in really well. None of the rest of my body has streaks, just the legs. Can I mix the sunless tanner with some of my B&BW lotion? I want to combat the dry look on my legs and hopefully combat any further streaking. Do any of you ladies know if the B&BW lotion will defeat the sunless tanner's purpose? And just some added info, I have both lotion and cream in the B&BW. I'd like to use the cream if I can and if not that is OK too. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I gave up the sun along time ago. It just isn't safe. Have been using sunless tanners for a long time. Self tanners can be very drying to your skin and you have to moisturize. You definitely have to wait until your tan as developed before moisturing, but after that it shouldn't matter what kind of lotion of cream you use. Which self tanner are you using?

pmeek-thanks for that info on waiting to moisturize. I always moisturize(except yesterday) after bathing so now I will wait to do that until my tan has developed. I bought 2 different kinds and each is for a different skin tone. I bought Neutrogena gradual tanner in a medium skin tone and l have an Avon gradual tanner in a fair skin tone. My skin is a medium skin tone but I was afraid to use it for fear it would look fake. I figured I'd use the fair skin tone one first and then switch to the medium skin tone kind once I had a nice color. The streak on each leg is towards the foot so I'm going to try putting less of the legs and rub it in for like 5 minutes

I have used a couple of sunless tanners and the only one I liked was the coppertone oil free lotion. It is the vanishing tint in light to medium. I used it all last year. I usually go to the tanning beds every other month but last year I was not able to and I thought I would die, and since I live in the Panhandle of Florida, there is no way I can go around with white legs, that would be silly. The coppertone worked great for me and was good on my legs since my legs are usually dry. I have been very lucky this year. I have a great friend that was re-doing her whole house and had a professional tanning bed that was a couple years old and since we had helped her move some stuff, she offered me the bed. Well I now have my own tanning bed and it doesnt run up the power bill like i thought it would and I get to be tan all year. the only problem is my daughter who is 19 complains about being pastie white, when there is a tanning bed in the next room ?? My tanning bed is open to all SA members. I have all the proper cleaning products and care products for it.

I just realized I have 2 coppertone products, one is the endless summer gradual tan, and that product made me look like an oopah loompah I hated it. the other one I mentioned before, the oil free vanishing tint sunless one, I loved. As for the pimple, I wanna pop it, come on let me do it, it will be fun. I promise only to laught for an hour or 2. And to return the favor , the next time my dh has a boil on his butt, that is all yours. See, i can share and play well with others. Hee Hee. here is a picture of the good sunless tanner.

Here's a couple of other tips if you are new to the sunless tanners. It's best not to apply right after showering. Better to wait at least an hour to give your skin a chance to thoroughly dry out. In the meantime, I put a lite layer of body lotion or cream on my elbows, knees, ankles and hands. The skin is coarser in those areas and they tend to get darker with the tanner. If after it developes and it really looks streaked and horrible or you haven't been reappling it and it looks terrible as it is wearing off this is what I use. Get a box of baking soda and some shower gel, mix together a thick paste and SCRUB your skin with it. The self tanner WILL come off. This solution is also great as an exfoiliator (be sure to use non-moisturizing shower gel) to use the night before going to get an airbrush tan.

As I said, I have been using sunless tanners for many years, so I have learned a few things. Believe me when I tell you it was a work in progress as in the beginning it wasn't very pretty! Of course the self tanners have come a long way since then also.

I am extremely fair skinned, and I really like the Jergens sunless tanner. I think the color looks good, no hint of orange whatsoever. I never have streaks with it, even though I apply right after showering. Another plus is it costs much less than most of the other brands! I buy it from drugstore.com. I also start out with the fair and progress to medium, which really helps avoid uneven color. Also, I notice a lot of people don't get the backs of their hands, so be careful not to forget them. I do everywhere else first, then put some of the tanner on a cotton ball or washcloth, wash my hands, then apply to the backs of my hands without getting it on my palms or pads of fingers. I have noticed via an accident that scrubbing bubbles takes sunless tanner right off immediately. Of course, you can't slather yourself in it! Just watch out when you use similar cleaning products, wear household gloves and be careful not to splash yourself.

Biker Babe-I used Jergens last year and it does give me good color. I used it along with tanning for those days I didn't tan. I noticed it would slightly break my chest out so I didn't buy it this year. Funny thing is, this Avon stuff is doing the same thing so I skipped putting it on today. I probably shouldn't have but I did. I've got like little bumps on certain areas of my chest. I'll see how my skin does overnight. Thanks for that scrubbing bubbles tip And the idea on how to apply it to the back of my hands! That's brilliant! I always wondered how I could pull that off

You should have seen my "Scrubbing bubbles incident"... I looked like a reverse Palamino horse! I was cleaning the tub in shorts and splattered it on my arms and legs... I was toasty brown with ghostly white runny spots everywhere! My chest used to break out a lot in the summer, too, so I started using my facial cleanser (which I use twice a day in the summer) for that area too, made it a regular routine - and had no more breakouts!

If you can't reach all of your back, pull off a piece of plastic wrap that is long enough that you can see-saw it across your back like you would with a towel to dry yourself. Squirt the sunless tanner on the plastic wrap and see-saw away!

Glad to be useful! One thing I forgot to mention is that if you have a hard time keeping the plastic wrap flat, you can put a piece of cardboard or some folded over newspaper in the middle to give you a flat surface. I figured this trick out after getting SEVERE poison ivy on my back and my arms were so badly sunburned that it hurt too much to try and contort myself to apply the steroid lotion I had to put on my back!
