cry For the past week we've been rehoming all my cats. I had 18. I'm no longer in good enough physical condition to take proper care of them, and the local horse barn owers are overcome by a plague of rats so off they went to live useful lives. I know they all have good homes, with people who will care for them properly but its been a major thing for me to have to give them all up.
On the plus side, we're saving $150 a month on cat food alone, not to mention flea treatments and other medical...I'll miss them all, but everything comes to an end. cry

AWW...I'm sorry you had to give them up, but I'm sure they will be happy in their new homes.  Hugs to you.

cry I am so sorry to hear that your furry friends are gone. I know how much you loved them and that they brought you alot of comfort.  They are going to have such a grand time chasing and catching those rats!

One of the new kitty parents has already reported that he went into the his tack room to get a brush, and found one of the Twins trying to figure out what to do with his pile of-SIX- dead rats laughing

I am so sorry to hear that you had to give your cats to new homes, but very happy to hear that you managed to find good homes for them all. That is no easy feat - ask any cat rescue!  cheers

If you ever need cheering up, feel like chatting, or just want to vent a little, please PM me! I have a feeling we have much in common.  sunny

I'm sorry about your health conditions, Red.  If it makes you feel any better Mother currently has 4 stray kittens that I've taken responsibility for(and I'm in no ways a "cat person") and so I'll treat them as Red would.  As long as you don't allow them to lick any body parts, poop on the carpet, or demand your undivided attention, that is  laughing

I'm so very sorry about your cats...we just "adopted" two (since March), one is a 2-year-old calico and the other is/was a kitten (and they grow up SO fast!), and I know how much you loved all of your kitties cry

Are you able to get "out and about"...most cat rescue have a place, like PetsMart, where you can go and volunteer to hold, cuddle, feed, etc. the cats/kittens. I go once a week to one PetsMart to volunteer, for about two hours. That's all I can do, since I had my stroke four years ago. With your experience, it would make you a good volunteer, I bet. sunny Maybe you could "foster" one cat for a cat rescue place?

Kate

I fostered for the humane society forever(cats, small dogs, birds-a huge lizard-and recently three pet raccoons that ate enough fruit to bankrupt a small country laughing). Problem now is my immune system is shot. A small scratch recently turned into my third case of celulitis this year so I can't be around anything more aggressive than a goldfish. My Doc has been threatening me for years about my cats, now I finally have to agree with him cry
I know the people at Petsmart love you being there, so many people are not willing to put in any time. Even two hours can make a big difference in their socialization, and as my ferals can tell you, unsocialized means adoptable. You're doing a wonderful thing love

If you want to leave the horses here when you move to California you have to put the fences back up-we took them all down after my horse passed away in 1983.
