I think the judges are going more for people who are marketable and not just those who can sing. They don't want another Taylor Hicks on their hands (or Sanjaya... Smile) The new dad sang fine but he's not a "pop" type person who will sell any records.

I agree with that. It seems marketability is becoming more important than the best singer getting through. I hope it does not ruin the show.

Was just reading an article where apparently w/ hollywood week, they don't cut anyone for the first two days. If you sing bad, you're put into a group who gets a second chance, whereas if you're good, you make it to next round right away, or something like that.

Personally, I think I'm done w/ the show after the auditions this year, though might watch a little more to see what they change up in Hollywood.

One thing more publicized is that they'll let them play their own instruments, too, and not just sing.  I don't think that helped the pan flute guy last night.

I'm glad that they didn't let everyone play their own instruments during auditions!  I can just see 10,000 people that can't play anything trying to play something just to get on TV!!!  Just like my daughter who swears that she can play the harmonica now ~ argh......there is you another good toy Johnny ~ or one of those little drum sets, ohhhh~ the horror cussing

I'm watching this chick who was informed two days ago her father was in a car wreck and died.  I think I would be on my way home instead of auditioning.  I guess I just don't get it.

seemed a little odd to me also. She was a lovely girl with a very good voice but has priorities mixed up.  They rest of the show was good. Im so afraid that my daughter is going to bring home a boy like the 9th grade repeater.  laughing   I really liked the biker chick.

This might be a good year yet!  Now if we can keep the bad weather away and the power on for the next hour so I can watch crazy tongue  I hated watching the Mom with the little girl and the Dad that just died leave last night ~ she handled it really well though ~ classy!  A lot better than Brooke the cheerleader did, that blonde headed girl just wasn't taking the hint... nono

I kept on thinking that I knew the name David Archuleta from somewhere and it was driving me NUTS!!!  Then it hit me this morning ~ he was on Star Search back a few years ago when Aresenio Hall was hosting.  I can still hear him calling his name!!  I had to look it up to be certain and yep! it was him, he was eventually beat out by Tiffany Evans, but he was really good back then even!

I knew I liked that boy!

I think I'm done with the show this season. The interesting/fun part is over. Who cares about the actual singing....

Too many people there who have already had record deals (and failed) or were in the spotlight for some other reality show.

A recap of tonight's American Idol guys:

David Hernandez:[/b]  sang "Wait Till The Midnight Hour"; nice performance...had a gospel tone at the start.  Nice voice.  Easy on the eyes.

Chikezie:  a so-so performance from him.  A bit flat at the start, with his old-style R&B song.

David Cook:  sang "Happy Together"; handsome guy gave a good performance.  He rocked the song.  Watch for his changing hair styles...will his hair style change more than Sanjaya's did last year?

Jason Yeager:  sang "Moon River"; handsome guy.  Only 28 years old, married and has a tween son.  His song choice was very old fashioned and a bit pitchy; came across like a cruise ship or cabaret singer.

Robbie Carrico:  sang "One Is The Lonliest Number".  this is the rocker of all the guys.  Good performance.

David Archuleta:  sang "You Better Shop Around"; this is the youngest singer, having just turned 17.  A pretty boy with a nice voice.  He nailed this song. I think I could  love him.......................

Danny Noriega:  sang "Jailhouse Rock"; a beautiful 18 year old.  Very nice performance -- hot, actually!  He even had the Elvis hip shaking thing going on.  He could certainly shake his hips at me...wow!  love My gaydar went off like a strobe light with him.  He even "snapped" Simon after his performance...in response to one of Simon's usual caustic remarks.

Luke Menard:  a pitch, so-so performance...not really that good.  An unforgettable vocal.  Look for him to be voted off early.

Colton Berry:  sang "We're Calling A Friend"; Gaydar was beeping with him!  Another 18 year old sweetie.  Gave a solid performace.  Looks a bit like Ellen Degeneres, especially with his hair style.  He could eat crackers in my bed anytime.  love

Garrett Haley:  sang "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do"; a Leif Garrett look-alike.  Another 17-year old pretty boy with long, golden locks of hair.  Has a nice high, dreamy voice.  Good performance, but could improve.

Jason Castro:  sang "What A Day For A Daydream"; a nice performance.  He has a good voice, but his dreadlocks need to go!  He was the only guy tonight to sing and play an instrument (guitar).

Michael Johns:  sang "Light My Fire"; a good, solid performance.

Okay sticks ~ read my above posts ~ I've already got bids on that for my new son-in-law laughing  Pick ya a different one nono

Who sang "Suspisious Minds"?  I thought that was Colton ~ started off sorta weak and then finished a little stronger in the end.  I usually take notes, but didn't have time to get my stuff together tonight maybe will do better tomorrow.  Me and my sister always take and compare notes ~ we have ever since season 2!

So many cute ones this year.  whistle  I love michael johns. been rooting for him since they showed him the first week of auditions. Love the accent. and he can sing. Also like Robbie Carrico.. cute and can sing also.  David Archuleta is sooo cute I just want to squeeze him. While he isnt my fav I think he could win this thing.

My votes for bottom three this week

Chikezie ~ really to bad too because he can sing much better than it showed last night
Jason Yeager ~ kinda cute if ya like that pretty boy look. The song choice was awful and he didnt do it well at all.
Colton Berry~ cute but didnt do that well last night. He looks like a young keifer sutherland to me.

But what about the missing girls? Carly Smithson was a total noshow and then Kristy Lee Cook was gone before the end of the show.

Who really cares about the guys.... Smile

Did not care for the girls at all!... There are maybe two that I like.  The rest are just so boring.   What was up with their hair? It made most of them look like 50's pin up girls. very weird.

I ended up having to Tivo it...going to have to watch it later.  I did get to watch a few minutes and was unimpressed with what I saw ~ I hope it was because they were sick...

I did get to see Syesha and thought she did a really really good job ~ she will be one to watch out for!

I thought the Diva Factor was a big one last night when the girls sang. Seems a few of them think they are already proven recording artists. I thought the song selection and the singing overall was better done by the boys. We'll see who goes tonight!  popcorn
