Cookie Sheet Blanket Contest

Not sure what the prize is; but I think it doesn't really matter in this case.
At Irisheyes Knitting Blog, Kathy B. is putting out a call for home-made preemie blankets. She originally asked for knitters, but it looks like she'll take crocheted & quilted blankets, too.
This small kindness from you, a stranger, means a great deal to these parents struggling through a difficult time. If you crochet, knit, or quilt, please take a few hours out of your busy schedule to contribute to this call for kindness. A blanket 9X13 takes very little time.
If you don't knit, crochet, or quilt, pass this information along to someone who does. Thanks.

And, yes, I'll be making at least one blanket.

cheers That sure looks like a good cause. That sure is a little blanket. That's about the size I use to make up for my Barbie dolls.

scratch  I got to thinking that 9X13 is a pretty small cookie sheet. I went and measured some of mine. Even my smallest one is 14X16. I think she may need to rethink that size.

Yeah. I think mine are bigger than that too. Preemies are very small, though, so the size of the blanket may be right but the reference is just weird. Not sure. The woman works in a NICU, so should have a fairly good idea of the size needed.

 sunny You're awesome, cin! Thanks!

Just as a thought, people can do things like this for their local hospitals. Most Maternity wards are quite willing to accept home made hats & blankets to pass out to new mothers & fathers.

This is going to be a small blanket. I started it today and I can't imagine this being big enough. I'll post a picture when I'm done.

On her blog page, she gives her email address:

"Here are the rules:

Blanket must be made of yarn which is washable. Sorry, Hospital rules.

It cannot be bigger than a cookie sheet. Smaller is welcome also.

That's it. Those are the rules.

I'll post the prize by next week.

Mail a blanket to me

Kathy B

if you need my snail mail address, email me at Harpnut@gmail.com "

our daughter was a preemie (she turns 20 years old next month). We spent most of her first month of life in the nicu including Christmas. We were lucky in that she was only two months early, there were babies that could fit in your hand in there at the same time so a blanket the size of a cookie sheet would work out well. We appreciated the hats the most because heat loss is such a major problem when the babes are out of the incubator. Bless all of you who contribute!

Hats I can do. Do you know the circumference? A range? I can make a regular size baby hat & could adjust the pattern, but don't have a clue to the size. Thanks!

I can't do hats and I have to start over on my blanket because I'm having to adjust the pattern  laughing I am not that good of a crocheter but I'll get it figured out.

Thought those of you who had made a blanket for the babies might like to them all together, in case you haven't seen the pic....so pretty!.... a tapestry of handmade love!  sunny  I had made a crocheted one and a sewed one.
