Don't go into a battle of the brains unarmed...

« on: March 02, 2008, 08:13:22 AM »

We had All District Academic Team yesterday and I am so proud!  Ashelyn won 4th place All-District in Language Arts!  She was the highest place in her school and gets to move on to regional competition in two weeks!  We also won 2nd place in Quick Recall and 1st place in Future Problem Solving sunny

I got to work at the competition yesterday for a few hours and read over the tests and they were hard!  I was amazed!  5th has changed a lot in the many, MANY years since I was in there laughing  There were several other individual members that placed in other areas also ~ so we are going to have a busy day in a few weeks!!

I love it when I can brag on my kids for doing well in school stuff ~ something that isn't always possible crazy tongue

Kid scared me to death last night!  I was in here on the computer and I heard her go into the bathroom and really didn't think anything of it until I heard the big bang... I go running in there and she is laid out on the floor!  She had cut her finger (just a little pinprick really), saw the blood, and passed out in the floor!  She has done this before and I have told her over and over again that if she ever cuts herself to sit or lay down immediately, but she didn't!

Needless to say, she hit the sink on the way down and she has a huge goose egg on the backside of her head, and scratchs on her back!  Her head is STILL killing her.  Plus, it scared her...that kid is going to be the death of me yet!!  Jimmie does the exact same thing!  I could have my arm hanging by a thread and they would be fine, but let them get a bleeding scratch and down they go crazy tongue

Symptoms of concussion:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000799.htm

Quote
If any of these signs are present, immediately call your health care provider.
Emergency signs:

Persistent unconsciousness (coma)
Altered level of consciousness (drowsy, hard to arouse, or similar changes)
Persistent confusion
Convulsions
Repeated vomiting
Unequal pupils
Unusual eye movements
Muscle weakness on one or both sides
Walking problems

Hopefully you've mentioned this passing out thing (Vasovagal syncope) to her ped. doc.? scratch Sometimes it can be a symptom of heart disease, and some forms of heart disease are hereditary (my Mom has a rare one called Prinzmetal angina, for example, which has caused sudden death in three generations of her family-my Great-Aunt Rose died while lifting her breakfast coffee cup to her lips. My Uncle always says, at least she could've had her coffee first crazy tongue)
