I had kind of an awkward situation today I just wanna know what other people would have done.
My BF (boyfriend) and I work in different buildings (different companies) that are just a block a part. I went out to lunch today alone at a nearby Deli that people from both our offices frequent. I got my food and sat down at a booth to eat. The people in the next booth we're obviously talking business but I didn't see who they were and heard little of their conversation (not enough to know who or what they were talking about). After a couple minutes one of them got up to go talk to someone who had just walked in. That's when I realized that the two people were from my boyfriend's company. They look shocked/alarmed (not in a good way) to see me. I honestly wasn't listening to their conversation and have no idea what they were talking about. But after they realized I was there they picked up there food and moved into a room and shut the door (the area we were eating in has conference rooms they rent out). They obviously didn't want me to hear what they were saying which I understand . But I really think they are worried I overheard something that I shouldn't. Or that I'm going to tell my boyfriend what they were talking about. I am not going to tell him anything...except about this awkward situation!
Since they left suddenly I didn't say anything but I feel like I should have...or still should. What would you do?

I wouldn't have found it awkward, and I would have just blown it off. I worked in an office of a large corporation for years, and most everyone is talking about someone behind their back. Let them, and don't give it a second thought or care about it. They're not worth your time!

Okay...I'll be honest ~ that would have sent me into a panic attack! I would be reacting just like you are and it would be driving me crazy.
I would try to get past it since there is nothing that you can really do about it, but I do know how you feel! I hate you have to worry about it!!

Thanks for both your comments...On one hand it's a good thought that maybe their conversation wasn't really business related (or business appropriate). Who knows what they were talking about!
Thanks also for reassuing me that I'm not the only one that would "go nuts" after this. My boyfriend will just laugh at me when I tell him the story I'm sure.

I just know how I would have reacted and it was the same thing...your not crazy ~lol!! Men don't understand that because they are wired totally different, so you are right ~ no help from the boyfriend I also know me well enough to know I would be avoiding going back if at all possible...at least by myself! You might be braver than I am though ~ I just wouldn't want to be put in that situation again if possible

I have to admit that I'm at a loss here! If nothing was heard, what's to worry about? If, in fact, that were the reason they picked up and moved because they thought you overheard them, wouldn't it be them who are worrying about what you might have overheard?

If they were indeed talking business that was confidential then SHAME on them for speaking in a public place. You did nothing wrong. Of course tell your BF what happened.

No ~ you are totally right ~ Anikka did absolutely nothing wrong...but I just know how I react and it sounded a little like I do! I just don't want her feeling like she is the only one that would do that ~ no matter how silly it sounds I react weird in certain situations. It is just nerves and anxiety...maybe I need stronger medicine

I guess I am just evil. I would have fun with it! Next time I saw them I would look at them all weird and just keep staring. Then start alternating between staring and furiously scribbling in a notebook, or whip out my cell phone and act like I am "reporting" to someone. Pretend I am in a remake of mission impossible.. Why should you feel bad? You didn't do anything wrong! If they were being nasty gossips, they deserve to feel nervous!
