CLOSED AND FINISHED!

Here it is folks:  The Big Buddha Bag Giveaway!

What can you Win?  A 1916-D “Mercury Head” Silver Dime valued at over $60.00 and/or $20.00 Cash and/or a Big Buddha Purse and Wallet (retail value: $120.00)!  At the very least you will win the "Big" Buddha!

This is a "big money" MOC ... so don't miss out!

How are you going to win???  I have a 1916-D Silver Dime in Class 38 condition (2 steps down from "uncirculated") .... It is Catalogue appraised at OVER  $60.00 guaranteed!!!!  I will take $20.00 of pennies (2000 of them) ... lay them out ... randomly place the dime in the lineup ... If a person guesses the location exactly they will win the Dime, the $20.00, and the purse and wallet!  If a person comes closest within 3 +/-  numbers of the exact location they will win only the $20.00 and the purse and wallet. Otherwise if  a person comes closest to the exact location they will win only the purse and wallet.  Of course, there will be a 'fun' daily qualifier "Travel Question" to make it multi-entry.  Some answers will be harder to find than others, but all of them are available via the Internet.

ALL OF THE "TRAVEL QUESTIONS" ARE ACTUALLY FROM PLACES I VISITED AT THOSE DATES!  (Fun, eh?)

It is my goal to make this contest as close to a “real” contest as possible!

This is how its going to work: (this is the fine print)

     1.  The MOC (Members Only Contest) is going to run for 14 days.  You can enter each day or only once, it is up to you.

     2.  The actual contest will start on Thursday 29JAN09 and end on Wednesday 11FEB09.  The first clue will be posted on the 28th of January (today).

     3.  Each day will run from 12:01 AM PST to 12:00 AM PST  (ie: midnight to midnight PACIFIC STANDARD TIME)

     4.  Each day you will be presented with a different Mystery “Travel Question” that will qualify you for a “Number Guess” if you submit the correct answer.  You can enter multiple answers to the “Travel Question” each day, but only your first correct answer will count!  Each person will receive a total of ONLY 1 (one) entry per day.

     5.  The “Travel Question” will be posted by me by 12 Noon, PST, the day prior to the day it is to be answered. This allows you a full 35 hours and 59 minutes to find the answer!

     6.  The “Number Guess” is where you think the “Dime” is located among the 2000 pennies.  (ie: your guess has to be between 1 and 2000)

     7.  The winner will be determined by the “Number Guessclosest to the actual location of the “Dime”.

     8.  You need to PM me with your “Travel Question” answer and “Number Guess” for each of the 14 days.  Do NOT post your “Travel Question” answer or your “Number Guess” in this thread!

     9.   You also need to post in THIS THREAD that you have entered for each day.

    10.   Prizing is as follows:
             A.    The “Dime”, $20.00 cash, Purse and Wallet:  IF you guess the EXACT location of the “Dime”.(for example:  696)  Total Estimated Value: $200.00
             B.    $20.00 Cash, Purse and Wallet:  IF you guess the location of the “Dime” within +/- 3 places.  (for example: 693, 694, 695 – 697, 698, or 699)  Total Estimated Value: $140.00
             C.    Purse and Wallet if otherwise you have the closest guess of the location of the “Dime” out of all entries received. Total Estimated Value: $120.00

    11.   Any ties will be resolved by a random draw.

    12.   The winning “number” will be recorded with a Moderator here on the site before the start of the MOC.

    13.   No member shall have any recourse if they get grumpy and are dissatisfied with the prize or any part of this MOC.   crazy tongue

Let the fun begin!

Question for THURSDAY. 29JAN08:

Quote
In 1974, Loren heads off to the Mediterranean to attend college in a “mystery city” in Lebanon.

The city is the capital and largest city of Lebanon with a population of over 2.1 million as of 2007. Located on a peninsula at the midpoint of Lebanon's coastline with the Mediterranean sea, it serves as the country's largest and main seaport.  Originally named "The Wells" by the Phoenicians, its history goes back more than 5000 years.  Excavations in the downtown area have unearthed layers of Phoenician, Hellenistic, Roman, Arab and Ottoman remains.  The first historical reference to the city dates from the 14th century BC, when it is mentioned in the cuneiform tablets of the "Amarna letters."  It remained an intellectual capital of the Arab world and a major commercial and tourist center until 1975 when a violent civil war broke out in Lebanon.   During most of the war, the city was divided between the largely Muslim west part and the Christian east.  The central area of the city, previously the focus of much of the commercial and cultural activities, became a no man's land. Many of the city's inhabitants fled to other countries.

WHERE IS HE?

REMEMBER NOT TO POST YOUR ANSWER HERE!!!!

Ah, the qualifier - "CONTEST" as opposed to "SWEEPSTAKES"  laughing

I too usually skip anything that requires a recipe/trivia/etc {unless you can skip/answers don't matter} but this is a neat idea LB!!!  headbang

I have entered this morning.

Love the contest!  I don't usually enter if there is work involved, but I actually knew this one and I can't resist old coinage.  I work at a bank and you wouldn't believe the stuff people bring in... one guy brought in a 1928 Silver Peace Dollar, I warned him that I could only give him face value and the whole time I was doing cartwheels in my head!   whistle

Question for FRIDAY 30JAN08(#2)

(this one is a little tougher ... but still "simple simon"   Smile )

When civil war broke out in Lebanon in 1975, Loren and many other Americans were placed on ships and evacuated by the US government to our “mystery Island”.

It is the third largest Mediterranean island and one of the most popular tourist destinations, attracting over 2.4 million tourists per year.  A former British colony, it became an independent republic in 1960 and a member of the Commonwealth in 1961. It is one of the advanced economies in the region,  and has been a member of the European Union since 2004.  In 1974, following years of intercommunal violence between ethnic Greeks and Turks and an attempted coup d'état by Greek nationalists aimed at annexing the island to Greece and engineered by the military junta then in power in Athens, Turkey invaded and occupied one third of the island.
The Mycenaean Greeks first reached there around 1600 BC, with settlements dating from this period scattered all over the island. Another wave of Greek settlement is believed to have taken place in the period 1100-1050 BC, with the island's predominantly Greek character dating from this period. Several Phoenician colonies were founded in the 8th century BC, like Kart-Hadasht ('New Town').

WHERE IS HE?

REMEMBER NOT TO POST YOUR ANSWER HERE!!!!

(Remember that you still have until midnight to answer the previous question!  If you are having troubles ... don't worry ... each question contains several clues that you can use, in like a google search, which will lead you right to the correct answer!   sunny )

Honestly, David, my best friend is in relationship right now, but he never seems to find Mr. Right.  And, he loves chocolate.  So, when you tire of Michaels antichocolate ways, give me a call!   whistle   laughing
