The answer to the Monday 09FEB09 question was Tirtagangga, Bali. We had 12 replies and only 9 correct answers! (I warned you that it was a toughie!)
My original plan was to go to Irian Jaya, now known a Papua, which is the western part of New Guinea. You know: head hunters running naked through the virgin rain forest jungles! Ooooh... sounds like fun! Unfortunately, I ran a little short on funds to buy a plane ticket from Bali to Jayapura, which would have be my jumping-off point for the interior. Well, I still had my ticket to Bali, via Hong Kong, so I figured I might as well still go. so there Loren goes ... no real plans ... except for the fact that a friend had told him about this wonderful little village in eastern Bali. I arrived in Denpasar and made my way Kuta: the local tourist trap on the coast. You have heard about it. It is the place where all the Aussies go to create chaos. Fortunately, it wasn't during a school break so it was pretty quiet there. During the 4 days there I "kitted" myself by buying hand-dyed Batik sarongs, sandals, short-sleeved white shirts, and skeeter coils! I could have been mistaken for a local if I hadn't been white and 6'2"! I had really gone "native"! While I was there I met a young man and his sister that both worked at a local warung (ie: cafe, bar, and/or store type of combination) and he turned out to be pretty nice kid! One afternoon I was showing him some American paper money: $100 bill, no reaction ... $50 bill, no reaction ... $20 bill, now that got his attention! He definately knew what that was! Whats a twenty to us? Nothing. So I gave it to him. What I didn't realize at the time was that that was a month's wages for him. I now had a friend for life. Literally!!!! He took me up to his family village, up by Tana Lot Temple, where I had to sit on this chair on a verandah while I got formally introduced to his entire family ... and then all of the local villagers too! If it hadn't been so serious, it would have been funny. Well, I had got me a "boy" and I hadn't even meant to. As the time came to leave Kuta he piled me, my duffle bag, and him on his little 150cc motor bike and took me first to Ubud and then to Tirtagangga. Can you imagine my bag, him, and big ol' me wearing a sarong all piled on this little scooter and weaving like crazy folk through traffic? It must have been quite a sight! I arrived alive and he turned me over to a "relative" who then became my "boy". (I knew I would have to pay him too, but it is worth it. He only got a 5 though!) I was pleased with my choice. It was just a wide spot in the road with this beautiful water palace and temple. I got a nice bungalow on the hillside overlooking the rice terraces toward the ocean for only $6 a night. Want a papaya? Somebody would go get me one right off the tree. Coconut? No problem! Guava? Sure thing boss! The bungalow even had heated water!!!! (The water did smell a tad bit of water buffalo dung but who cares.) While I was there I did climb the volcano to see the temples, also got to go to a "baby ceremony" which they hold when a child survives to 6 months, went to a local temple service, and conned the "guys" into holding a "dance" ceremony for me ... ... maybe I will tell you about that tomorrow!* *I spent an hour and a half typing this all up (I'm a slow typist, especially when I have to think!) and then the site crashed on me and I had to start all over! I was NOT a happy camper! This time around I did it on wordpad and just copy/pasted it here! Now I am all typed out!

Question for WEDNESDAY 11FEB09: (#13)
(This one is soooooo easy! Even a person befuddled by acute Choco poisoning can get this one!)
In 1999 Loren found an airfare offer he couldn’t resist and jetted off to this “mystery City”.
It is one of the world's most important business, financial and cultural centers and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion and the arts contributes to its status as a major global city. It hosted the 1908 and 1948 Summer Olympic Games and will host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Its population draws from a wide range of peoples, cultures, and religions, and over 300 languages are spoken within the city. As of July 2007, it had an official population of 7,556,900 making it the most populous municipality in the European Union, with a population more than double that of its nearest rival. Although there is evidence of scattered Brythonic settlements in the area, the first major settlement was founded by the Romans in AD 43 following the Roman conquest. Around 61AD, the Iceni tribe led by Queen Boudica stormed this first city, burning it to the ground. The next, heavily planned incarnation of the city prospered and superseded Colchester as the capital of the Roman province in 100AD. At its height in the 2nd century, the Roman City had a population of around 60,000. By the 600's, the Anglo-Saxons had created a new settlement called Lundenwic approximately 1,000 yards upstream from the old Roman city. It is likely that there was a harbor at the mouth of the River Fleet for fishing and trading, and this trading grew until the city was overcome by the Vikings and forced to relocate the city back to the location of the old Roman city to use its walls for protection. Viking attacks continued to increase, until 886 when Alfred the Great recaptured the city and made peace with the Danish leader, Guthrum. Plague caused extensive problems for the city in the early 17th century, culminating in the Great Plague in 1665–1666. This was the last major outbreak in the country, possibly thanks to the disastrous fire of 1666. The "Great Fire" broke out in the original City and quickly swept through its wooden buildings, destroying large swathes of the city. The Blitz and other bombing by the German Luftwaffe during World War II killed over 30,000 inhabitants and destroyed large tracts of housing and other buildings across the city. The city is too diverse to be characterized by any particular architectural style, having accumulated its buildings over a long period of time and drawn on a wide range of influences. It is, however, mainly brick built, most commonly the yellow stock brick or a warm orange-red variety, often decorated with carvings and white plaster moldings. Many grand houses and public buildings (such as the National Gallery) are constructed from Portland stone. Some areas of the city, particularly those just west of the center, are characterized by white stucco or whitewashed buildings. Few structures pre-date the Great Fire of 1666, except for a few trace Roman remains, the "Tower" and a few scattered Tudor survivors in the City.
WHERE IS HE?
PLEASE: REMEMBER NOT TO POST YOUR ANSWER HERE!!!!
(You still have until midnight PST to answer the previous question! If you are having troubles ... don't worry ... each question contains several clues that you can use, in like a google search, which will lead you right to the correct answer!)

Hey LB ~ I think after two weeks with no power and since I am the one that helped you come up with this idea that I should get 14 guesses on that dime ~ lol... I deserve something people...heck, just give me the purse and forget about me guessing. I think I did get in one entry maybe by Trace...heck, I might have been dreaming that I talked to her Dang... I thought the fix was all in? Wolfie was supposed to have rigged the numbers; Pmeek was going to provide the fancy drinks with umbrellas and "bendie" straws; tobby1 was in charge of the basket of travelin' vittles; and tharedhead was gonna purchase the Greyhound bus tickets to the 'gator-wrestling farm! Sorry, ping! It is so hard to find good help now days! But! There is good news! Only two questions left! And they are both so easy even a blind coon dog could sniff them out! I know that I said that that this whole shindig would be finished by 11:59 pm PST Wednesday ... but remember that Saturday was kidnapped by Aliens. It's up to you folks ... 14 days (and only 13 chances) or 14 questions???? Let me know. The last question IS really easy! They are coon HOUNDS! And they only need their noses. Blind doesn't matter! If you've ever been on the human side of a leash when a scent hound picks up a scent, you haven't lived! Trust me, it is all about the scent. It takes over!

Me I had all the travelling treats packed to go, I waited and waited for my boat to show, no one came, so I ate them all, and there was lots and lots of chocolate. Because as everyone knows if tobby1 is packing the food there will be enough chocolate to build the boat to take the trip on.

The answer to the question for Tuesday 10FEB09 is Eleuthera, The Bahamas. We had 14 entries and 14 correct answers!!!!
This was actually a structured vacation. Why the regression? Well, Loren made a fatal mistake ... he took a female along! OMG, YES!!! The first time I had ever done such a thing. As we all know women don't go for the "independent" travel thing and want to be pampered and do lots of shopping and other stuff like being taken out to eat at fancy restaurants. Where's the fun in that??? And I'll let you know that it didn't turn out well. So we will just sorta skip over that part ... This was an American Airlines vacation package: hotel and airfare for 9 days all for $550/person. It sounded like a pretty good deal and was at Eleuthera which is off the beaten path. So, it was off to Miami for the second time. The trip to the island was in this little 'puddle jumper' that appeared to have seen its better days, but it managed to make it there without falling into the sea! The hotel, Pineapple Cove, was a nice little place in the center of the island. There was 12 duplex bungalows scattered over the nicely kept garden grounds and a great 'clubhouse' with a dining area, bar and pool. Hanging from the ceiling there was this gigantic paper-mache' fish. He must have be 10 feet long and had these great staring bug-eyes. I never did get used to him watching me drink my cocktails! And, of course, there was a small cove there for one to go snorkelling in. The snorkelling at Eleuthera is excellent. Unlike the Great Barrier Reef all one had to do was find a stretch of beach, put on the gear, and flap your way into light surf. The coral wasn't all that great but the fishies made up for that. My favorites were the Barracudas. They would swim right up to you, stick their face in front of your mask, and give you a big toothy grin! Let's not forget the Conchs. They were there for the picking. Dive down, grab one, and take him back for dinner. If you don't like Conch then don't go to the Bahamas ... conch salad, conch soup, conch burgers, breaded conch, conch pizza, raw conch, boiled conch, fried conch ... might have even been a conch dessert! The local night life was something to be remembered! Each Thurs, Fri, and Sat. night the locals have a particular bar they decide to go to ... and everybody does. Talk about party! Debauchery is given new heights at these 'little' get-togethers. The fun doesn't end until the bar runs out of hooch. Ofdah! On the north part of Eleuthera is the island of St. Georges Cay and the town of Spanish Wells which is an old Dutch colony which seems to not have changed in 300 years. Beautiful white clapboard houses with white picket fences and dainty flower gardens. The entire population of the small island of Dutch origin and they don't really mix with the population of the main island (on purpose). But the funny thing is that is that if somebody were to come up behind you and start talking you would swear that it must be a black man with rasta dreads talking to you. And then you turn around and it is an old Dutch lobster fisherman! It is the strangest thing I've ever encountered. What can I say? Sunshine, blue waters, good food, great fun! You have to try it!

since I promised only 14 days yet also promised 14 questions/chances, I find myself in a quandry! So what I have decided to do is post the last clue right now. That gives you 11 hours to use it as a "bonus" chance. Everything will be done at 11:59 PM PST. (that's 12:59AM MST, 1:59AM CST, or 2:59AM EST) The winner will be posted within 48 hours ... less if I'm jazzed up on double mochas.
Bonus Question for 11FEB09(this is so easy I am ashamed to post it!) In 2005 Loren again got lured by a good deal and found himself in this “mystery City” on the European mainland.
It is situated on the river Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region. The City, within its limits largely unchanged since 1860, has an estimated population of 2,167,994 (January 2006), but the metropolitan area has a population of nearly 12 million, and is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe. The city has many nicknames, but its most famous is "La Ville-Lumière", a name it owes both to its fame as a center of education and ideas and its early adoption of street lighting. It is located in the north-bending arc of the river Seine and includes two islands, the Île Saint-Louis and the larger Île de la Cité, which form the oldest part of the city. Overall, the city is relatively flat, and the lowest elevation is 115 ft above sea level. There are several prominent hills, of which the highest is Montmartre at 427 ft. Much of the "Modern" town is the result of a vast mid-19th century urban remodeling. For centuries, the city had been a labyrinth of narrow streets and half-timber houses, but, beginning in 1852, the Baron Haussmann's vast urbanization leveled entire quarters to make way for wide avenues lined with neo-classical stone buildings of bourgeoisie standing; most of this 'new' town is what we see today. These Second Empire plans are in many cases still applied today, as the city is still imposing the then-defined "alignment" law (building facades placed according to a pre-defined street width) on many new constructions. A building's height was also defined according to the width of the street it lines, and city's building code has seen few changes since the mid-19th century to allow for higher constructions. It is for this reason that it is mainly a "flat" city. Unchanging borders, strict building codes and lack of developable land have together contributed in creating a phenomenon called muséification (or "museumification"). Two of the city's oldest and famous gardens are the Tuileries Garden, created from the 16th century for a palace on the banks of the Seine, and the Left bank Luxembourg Garden, another former private garden belonging to a château built for the Marie de' Medici in 1612. The Métro is the city's most important transportation system. The system, with 300 stations (384 stops) connected by 133 miles of rails, is comprised of 16 lines. In its early history the city had only the Seine and Bièvre rivers for water. Later forms of irrigation were a first-century Roman aqueduct from southerly Wissous (later left to ruin); sources from the Right bank hills from the late 11th century; from the 15th century, an aqueduct built roughly along the path of the abandoned Wissous aqueduct; and, from 1809, the canal de l'Ourcq, providing it with water from less-polluted rivers to the northeast of the city. The city would have its first constant and plentiful source of drinkable water only from the late 19th century: From 1857, the civil engineer Eugène Belgrand, under Préfet Haussmann, oversaw the construction of a series of new aqueducts that brought sources from locations all around the city to several reservoirs built atop the City's highest points of elevation.
Remember ... all done at midnight!
