 Smile

I do send everbody, who might have gotten a wrong answer, a message telling them that they "blew"* it And let them know to send another guess...  (but I"m not required to do so  whistle )

.... IF I get the opportunity to read their PM before midnight.

As per rule #4:

Quote
4.  Each day you will be presented with a different Mystery “Travel Question” that will qualify you for a “Number Guess” if you submit the correct answer.  You can enter multiple answers to the “Travel Question” each day, but only your first correct answer will count!

...so guess several times if you have to!   Smile

*can I use the word "blew"????? crazy tongue

The answer for Monday's location is:  Belize!

We had 14 entries and 14 correct guesses!!!  Gosh Darnit!  I should have made these much tougher!   laughing  Great job everyone!

One day my boss came up to me and said, "Do you want to take a trip to Guatemala?"  So ... being a smart-mouthed kid I whipped back, "Sure, if you pay for it!"  2 weeks later I find myself, and 3 of my co-workers, in a pickup with a camper on it headed down the East coast of Mexico!  We have 7 days to make it down there all the way from Seattle!  After 4 days of round-the-clock driving we make it to Belize.  LO and behold all the folks there speak English!  No "que pasa" there!  Fine British folk!  The first night we pull over to the side of the road next to the ocean.  Where are we going to stay?  No problemo, amigos ... we just string out our hammocks between palm trees that line the beach.  Hmmmm!  Palm trees, hammocks, ocean breezes, lapping waves, white-washed bungalows on stilts, and NO skeeters!

Does life get any better????  Nope!

Our next destination is to head West into the wild jungles of Guatemala.  So off we go, peddle to the metal off to the frontier.  Well, we hit the border crossing , which is just another wide spot in the jungle.  So we all line up and prepare to present our identification and visas.  And then one of my friends decides it it time to confess that he doesn't have a Passport OR a the required visa!!!  Say what, homey????

Going to Mexico is no problem without a passport, it's normal.  But how did he get into Belize???   scratch

But, the border into Guatemala is a whole different "ball of wax", since Belize and Guatemala are in a state of "dispute"!  Remember ... we are in the middle of the jungle ... we have 2 days left to get to our destination 600 miles away ... they aren't going to let this idiot over the border ... these guards have loaded machine guns!

I would have left his sorry butt at the side of the road!  But ...  we all chipped in and bribed the border dudes with $80.00 US (a year's wages down there) and they let us through.  Personally I would have left him to get eaten by fire ants and slimey critters ... he never did pay us back!

The rest of the road to Poptun had signs that read:  "Caution Gravel Road Ahead"!  Did you know that "gravel" is crushed rock 2-3 inches in diameter??????  2 flat tires later .....

(Remember that you have until midnight PST to answer that darn question for today)

Question for WEDNESDAY 04FEB09:  (#7)   Wednesday ... that day of the week they call "hump day"!

(There are a lot of place names in this clue so it shouldn't be too tough   whistle  )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the late 70’s and early 80’s Loren just loved to ‘hang out’ in this “mystery Town” which at the time only had a population of about 1,500.

It is a small town located on the western coastline of the Mexican state of Jalisco.  The town with a population of 7000+ is a small farming and fishing community located 60 km north of Manzanillo.  In recent years, the Jalisco state government has promoted it as a tourist attraction of the Costalegre.  The beachfront fronting the sandbar arcs toward San Patricio, Jalisco 4.5 kilometers to the Northwest.  The history of the "modern" town dates back to the mid-1500s when the Spanish used it for shipbuilding, repairs and a jumping off point to the Philippines.  A monument has been erected as a memory to these journeys at the end of the jetty.  Ruy López de Villalobo’s (1500 – 1544) fleet of six galleon ships, the Santiago, Jorge, San Antonio, San Cristobal, San Martin, and San Juan, left from there with 370 to 400 men on November 1, 1542.  Perhaps, On the early morning of November 21, 1564, armed with five ships and 500 soldiers, Miguel López de Legazpi and his sail-captain Andrés de Urdaneta sailed from the port.
The large lagoon behind the town is criss-crossed by small fishing boats gathering scallops and lobsters and transporting visitors and locals.  Most of the outlaying areas are devoted palm and banana plantations.
As a side note, the town was the location set for the film “Caboblanco”:  an American drama film directed by J. Lee Thompson, starring Charles Bronson, Dominique Sanda and Jason Robards.  Giff Hoyt (Bronson), a cafe owner in Cabo Blanco, Peru after World War II is caught between refuge-seeking Nazis and their enemies. After the murder of a sea explorer is passed off as accidental death by the corrupt local police, Giff becomes suspicious. The police chief (Rey) also intimidates a new arrival Marie (Sanda), and Giff intervenes to help her. Giff suspects Beckdorff (Robards), a Nazi refugee living in the area. Beckdorff, it emerges, is seeking to uncover sunken treasure.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHERE IS HE?

REMEMBER NOT TO POST YOUR ANSWER HERE!!!!

(You still have until midnight PST to answer the previous question!  If you are having troubles ... don't worry ... each question contains several clues that you can use, in like a google search, which will lead you right to the correct answer!)

I was going to mention, you are not much of a homebody are you Loren. You have had a interesting life, and I have a good idea we are hearing the VERY edited version of your life.   laughing I am quite sure there are all kinds of words you can't use if you were telling the whole story.  laughing At least no one can say you didn't try it. Me I have never even been on an airplane and have no desire to. EVER. If God wants me to fly he will give me wings and throw me in the air., otherwise I am staying on the ground and home.  laughing laughing
