In all the sweepstakes listings on the site you will see a Post Comments & View Comments option.

Example:

Luxury Sports Car Sweepstakes
Enter the sweepstakes to win a Lexus? IS 350. Drive in luxury on us!
Restrictions : 18+ US exc NY + FL | Added : 04-10-06 | Expires : 07-21-2007 | Hits : 5422 | Rules
 | Remove from My Sweepstakes | Broken Link | Refer | Post Comment | 3 Comment(s)

The post and view comments used to be viewable in the forum. The problem was that this system was not accurate ( some comments did not sync with their sweepstakes ) and we needed to build the comments system out into its own.  There was also a feature enhancement rolled out to comments that could only be accomplished by building this out.

What Does This Change?

All comments that are posted from the listings are only viewable by clicking the Comments link for each listing. ( They are no longer viewable in the forum ) .  If a sweepstakes listing has comments attached the comments link will be preceeded by a number.

Example: 3 Comment(s)

Can I still post Comments in Comments Forum?

Yes, you can still post comments in the comments forum but they will not be linked to the sweepstakes listings as in the past.

What happens to all the old comments?

All comments posted prior to yesterday will remain in the comments forum.

Hope this clears up any questions anyone might have.

Just to confirm the new way of working....

There is no way to view comments for sweeps without going through the sweep listings.

If someone "answers" your comment in the sweep, you won't get notified, as they aren't tied into the forum notification mechanism.

Actually, because of the first, I wouldn't expect anyone to "answer" as they are apt not to see any comment.

Having lived with the new way for just a couple days  now..... I kinda liked the old way better...

It was easy to see what if any sweeps people were having trouble with and, if you did post about trouble, you'd be notified of any answer when someone else posted.

Don't mean to start the gripes so soon after the new feature added...

Before I released this out I let people test it and this point unfortunately didn't come up or was not brought up.

I think the fact that the old system was inconsistent and many comments didn't match with some sweepstakes made it frustrating for people. The old system also didn't allow people to type too much info in.

I think at the time we started developing this these points out weighed the notification and it was lost in the shuffle.

On the brighter side you can still post sweepstakes comments in the sweepstakes comments forum and get notified.

One way for people to keep on top of any sweepstakes they post comments for in the system would be to add this listing to my sweepstakes.

It will take a visual check vs. getting an email but in a shorter list.

What we could do is list all lastest comments on another page where people could see what new comments are being posted in a glance.

Would this help?

I could also look into email notification but this may be a longer task to achieve.

Thanks for the comments.  Smile

I understand what you are saying but don't follow what you are suggesting. If I post a comment about a sweep that happens to be "dead", I don't envision many folks seeing it as a comment to a sweep. At least I'm not looking for those comments yet with the new way. I just went through my 66 instant win sweeps and didn't notice any comments. Going back, I see two had comments. At least with the old way, you could just scan the forum quickly. Yes, it had some false hits due to "matching" sweep names, and had its flawed. I guess I just got used to them.

Yes. Provided people can reply to the comments. I think the link is there today to reply, though I thought it was odd to be able to enter a new subject. I would have expected the subject to be at least "re:" with the old subject there as the initial subject....

I understand email notification will take longer to add. I think it would be nice to have.

Thanks

If there is a dead contest that you run into you should be using the broken link option. This is option is for dead or non working sweepstakes.

We receive probably over 25 broken link reports every day. We check them all out, fix them in some cases and if needed respond to the submitter.  This is probably the best way to handle this as regular members don't have access to fix the broken links.

We'll work up some tools around the new comments system that will be similar to the old system and I think we'll be square. If anyone else has any comments please chime in soon.

Sorry, dead was wrong word choice there. I meant more sweeps having trouble for the moment. But yeah, aware of where to post about dead sweeps/links. I do that once it a while myself...

OK, I am a bit confused with the new system, and since ll1 is not here to make fun of me   , I thought I would ask it.

I have tried to post 2 comments in the past few days and they have not shown up.  I have put in a title when I post a comment.  Should I leave that blank and then it will show?

Thanks for the assist!

No, those are not the ones.  One was an eversave and I cannot remember the other.  Heck, 1/2 the time I cannot remember my own name!

If I find them, I will let you know.  Thanks for looking though!
