I received a text yesterday morning (Dec. 5th) telling me "Congratulations!  Please call XXX-XXX-XXXX to claim your $100 rewards certificate.

I called and an operator wanted my name, and asked was I calling about the certificate.  Never once told me the name of the company or what type of card it was.  Said I could use it at such stores as Walmart, Walgreens, etc... In order to receive the certificate, I had to pay for the $4 dollar service charge.  I think she wanted a credit card number.  I then politely said I was not interested and hung up.

Did anyone else receive this text message?  Did I just throw away $100 for being suspicious? nono

sunny As soon as you mentioned "reward certificate", I knew that this was not a conversation that I would want to continue with the company called. You did the right thing by hanging up. Legit companies want you to know their name and do not charge to get the prize. Good job for not falling for their scam!

My husband is getting those messages on his cell phone too.  It's puzzling because he only entered one sweepstake on facebook and then decided he didn't like doing it because he fell for one of those "choose a sponor on each level" things.  He never even gave them his cell number.

If they don't ID the sweeps in the text, I don't think twice - I just delete.

If they do name it? I do a search to see if I entered it, and if the info they sent matches. If not? Delete.
