It is well-known and popular, and I have used it before.  However, there are risks to public advertising and dealing with face-to-face situations with strangers.  I would never do any sale or deal that involved a person coming to my home (giving out my home address) especially after reading this.

What were you planning to use it for, momox?  There are many things you can do on Craiglist - from searching for a job to buying and selling items to looking for a friendship, a relationship, or even casual sex.
In my own experience, I have found that many of the ads I've found within the Strictly Platonic and especially the Casual Encounters sections are phony ads that you can find repeated on the Craigslist sites for different cities.  They're often put up to lure you to various paid websites, or just to get your e-mail information so they can send you spam.
As the poster ahead of me said, be extremely careful when dealing with people in person through Craigslist.  If you are buying or selling something through that site, I would try to do it in a public place, and not have people come to your home, if possible.

I use it all the time.  As a buyer and you are looking for some item look there first.  It is an instant no cost Greensheet (depending where you are).  You have to be patient to find what you are looking for sometimes but if you stick to those with pictures and deal locally you can pick up a lot of good items without payiing retail.

As a seller, there are alot of people that send spam and scammers are there so do not offer to sell something to an out of towner who is going to send an agent over to pick up the item if you are selling. That is bogus. If selling make sure the check clears first with your bank before releasing the item.  Locally  tell them cash only which put scammers off.
