Hey there! Just wanted to say congrats! I saw this in the paper today! Smile I'm in chicago...

12-year-old in national cook-off with Hot Popper Burger
December 2, 2009 9:58 AM | No Comments
New Lenox seventh-grader Mike Smyth is a fan of hot peppers and spicy foods.

So when he saw a sign inviting kids to enter a burger recipe in the fourth annual National Kids' Cook-Off, he came up with the Bacon Hot Popper Burger. It features two jalapenos, a dollop of cream cheese and two slices of bacon on a one-third-pound patty.
Now, the 12-year-old's burger is one of 10 national finalists chosen by Red Robin from a pool of 11,000 entries. The public can go online and vote until Thursday, when the national winner will be announced.

The kid chef with the most online votes gets a $100 gift card to Toys R Us.

The finalists also will prepare their burgers in Denver for a panel of judges. The judges' pick will be featured at Red Robin restaurants and the winning chef will get a trip to Florida.
