The $4000 Halls.com - HALLS Helps Now Sweepstakes Merry Maids GC I won needs a new home - my mom bailed on buying it from me  nono

I tried the swapagift.com site {has to be worth $25 to $200} so no go.

I've never tried ebay - frankly, it's just too big of a learning curve for me and I'm afraid of being ripped off!!!  nono cry

I need to sell this card - not only could we use the $$$ {washer just died/DH's pay was cut} but our tax bracket means we'll soon get hit for this win!!!  cry

Anyway, any advice for a totally clueless noob?  crazy tongue

WOW  What a win Congrats!!!!

You can try http://www.giftcardrescue.com/
The owner was just on the TV show Shark Tank the other night, so it seem to be a legit company. ( I have never used them myself)
That may be a large amount even for them

I havent used ebay for quite some time now, because they have made it almost impossible for you to sell with them successfully or easily unless you are an actual business, but I believe your gc is over their limit...from what I remember, they top out at either 5 or 6 hundred dollars......

This post is indicative of why I'm so leery of using ebay - I've been online since 2002 I think, and have seen how people loved it at 1st & how it went downhill

TY for your input!!!  Waving

You can try craigslist, at least it won't cost you anything to list it.  I don't know about in your area but in mine the local television station websites allow you to list items for sale for free.  Just a few ideas  sunny

HI   I have been on Ebay for quite sometime....  Don't worry about being ripped off... you don't give over the prize without being paid....Also, You could list the package with a reserve list price so in the end, if it didn't sell for an acceptable amount, you'd only be out a very minor amount of money (like a dollar or two).  To tell you the truth Ebay makes a lot of sense to me with your specific deal......  I am very new to entering sweeps... but very well versed in ebay...I hope I helped a little...  I'd be happy to talk to you about it if you'd like but I have no idea how to even find messages...lol   I'll figure this out eventually!!    Debbie

sunny My husband and I have had great success with Craigslist. Craigslist is free and easy to use. He has bought and sold motorcycles, 4 wheelers, etc. I have sold a few prizes includes a Wii and a Playstation 3.Within 24 hours we usually have the cash in hand. You have to be careful though as there are really ALOT of scammers. We will only sell locally, no shipping and cash only! People are even counterfeiting money orders. You shouldn't have any problems living in LV.  We have a business so we usually sell out of the shop, but you will want to meet your buyer in a public place to make the trade. Good Luck with your sale.

I tried to sell a Playstation on Craigslist. Just be careful of the scanners.  I got a lot of emails from people claiming they were not in my area but wanted to send me a money order.  From what I have read (and someone else stated in this thread) there are a lot of money order scams going on.  Cash only is best.  Good luck on whichever one you choose.

Amy,  I also use ebay quite a bit.  There is really nothing to be afraid of.  The downside for the item you are trying to sell is the price.  If  you want to list it for a minimum sell price for say $2000 (which is called a reserve and  you can decide not to sell if nobody meets the reserve) you will be charged fees by ebay whether or not you sell your prize.  I'm not sure how much the fees would be because I sell small money stuff like fishing lures and hunting supplies.

I'm glad you have had only success by selling on E-Bay.  I've had some success, too, though E-Bay seems to be more buyer friendly than seller friendly.
I decided NOT to use E-Bay for sales ever again when three weeks ago I received a "winning" bid for an IPod Touch from an address in Nigeria.  Well, you can guess where that went.
I lost on the sale, of course; but I also lost a lot of time, contacting Paypal to determine if the sale was legitimate and if money had indeed been submitted to my account.  I was smart in my follow-through but I worried about other sellers who would be scammed by the e-mails and by the threats from the Nigeria address.  Two days after I went through all the questions to E-Bay and Paypal, I received a "warning e-mail" from E-Bay saying the buyer was a scammer — a little late, I'd say.  Why E-Bay let the bid go through is beyond me because I specified that I would accept bids only from addresses in the United States.
Oh, E-Bay sent me a note later, saying the site would not charge me for the "successful" sale.  I'm still angry.
Subsequently I learned that the Nigeria folks didn't want my Ipod Touch at all.  Their e-mail questions to me were seeking Paypal, banking and credit card account numbers.  The scam is a BIG one if you fall for it.

I also ebay-buy and sell-and like the others have said there really is nothing to be afraid of.  You get paid first, and the fees if you dont sell, are very minimal.  Good Luck to you, that would be a hard one to get rid of.  I won a prize from styleforfree.com, a few months back, fancy stuff.  A clutch, earrings etc...evening gown kind of stuff.  I couldnt get rid of it any way, I tried.  I put it on ebay and sold it.  Its just one of those things, its kind of a "your call" kind of thing....GL Waving sunny

If the same ebay rules apply to gift certificates as gift cards, you may have problems because of the value. Last week ebay canceled a gift card auction of mine and informed me that have strict rules that include only one auction at a time, on card per auction, and $500 max value.

Hi Amy,
I sell on Ebay and thought i would let you know that it is a good place to sell things you dont want, but there is a downfall. You will have to pay a listing fee which is usually a percentage of the value that you start the auction off at and then i believe they also get a final selling fee which is based on how much you sold the item for and all of my things that i sell usually end up at about 8 percent of the sale. Then Paypal will also charge you a percentage of the funds that are sent to you and is taking out immediately.Ebay sends you a monthly invoice for their cut, so its not taken out right away.My suggestion to you is to do Craigs list or put it in your local paper want ads, because you will lose alot just on fees alone and people never want to pay full price. Ebay to me seems more like an online garage sale. That is just my opinion others may disagree.Hope this helps you out a little. Oh i do have one question. I also won from this promotion, they sent me a check for 4ooo. I thought the prize was non transferable, thats why i called them and ask for a cash prize instead. They were really great about that too.No problems whatsoever. Is your name on the gift certificate or gift card?
