I wouldnt open it either.  Most of the scams are in a bold and very vague.. Thats how they get ya. A real sweep will usually say the name of the sweep that you won.  I dont think I have ever gotten a real one in all bold.

I hope you win a great prize soon, it's sad that so many people fall for these scams.

I received one from Chevron too.  I didn't open it, although it did appear to look somewhat real.

I use a database to keep track of my recent sweeps entries. This database also moves expired sweepstakes to a separate list so I can track any potential wins. Should I receive a sweeps win notification, I can easily search the database to see if I actually entered that particular promotion. It tracks things like the name of the promotion, list of prizes offered, website, etc. This way I can easily tell if a win notification is legitimate or not. So if I did enter a promotion from Chevron, but the prize I've supposedly won was not one of the prizes offered, I know I never entered that particular promotion. It prevents me from responding to false win notifications!

Anything from a major company in a sweep is not run by the company, it's run by a JA.. the only exception I can think of is, Kelloggs. Everyone else has a marketing department but lets an outside handle it.

I have received HUNDREDS of winning emails. Too bad they were all from either England or Nigeria. I even have received 3 checks in the mail- all postmarked from Paris and from Canada. Anything from another country I am told is a scam. Too bad they do manage to get to some poor person who doesn't know and it always costs them. Anything from another country- throw it!
