Has anyone ever read a story about someone or something that you just can't get out of your head.

Well about 3 months ago, about the same time that the tragic thing happened with Kelsey Smith I read this story about Kara Kopetsky. She was a teenager that went missing about a month before Kelsey.  Until the Kelsey case happened the media did little to no coverage on her because they suspected she was a runaway. She took nothing with her though. She also lived within miles of the sicko who abducted Kelsey. I won't go into all the details but if you want to read more just google her name there are tons of things out there on her, mostly blogs not tons of media attention.

Tonight on tv there was a report about a Boyscout that is missing and it was going on about how he was a good kid, straight A student, and about to get his eagle badge. He just vanished the same as in her situation. I am not demeaning the importance of his case just using it as an example. Though because of her past (seems she got into a little trouble at times and was a little rebellious) they automatically assumed she was just a runaway.  After searching missing persons online it seems there are several cases of teens that go missing just vanish and because they were not straight A students or a little rebellious they are deemed a runaway by authorities.

Since reading this I have searched daily for new info about Kara.  I think about her everyday although I do not live anywhere near there and have never meet her.  I think it struck a cord with me because I think of what the family is going through and I also think that could have very well been me as a teen.  I was a little rebellious (no law trouble, sneaking out and boy trouble mainly) not a straight A student (skipped school a little crazy tongue). These things do not make a bad child! Not all rebellious/troubled teens would think of running away.  Anyway whose to say that if someone runs away that they stay safe.

There was even a online petition on Kara's case reguarding the poor investigation being done by Belton, MO police.  I would hope that whatever mistakes my child had made in their past would not stop police from throughly investigating their disapearance.

I am so very sorry this has been so long. You all are the only peeps I have told that this has been on my mind so much. My hubby would be clueless as to why I would feel so strongly for someone I don't know.
Read some about it and let me know what ya think.

I know what you mean. You read these stories and they stick with you. I try not to read the paper and watch the news because I cant forget. I think they need to stop assuming a teen thats missing is a runaway. Maybe twenty years ago they had that luxury. Not now days. Anytime a child is missing they need to think the worse. Because it usually is the worse. When I lived in FL the case of jessica lunsford had me feeling that way. I still think about that poor little girl and what she went thru. To many sickos running around to assume anything.

good morning queen....  my best friend is the exact same way.  She will read or watch something on tv and she will get an immediate connection and it will bother her or be on her mind constinantly.  It makes her  sad at times, like she wants to be able to save every1 from pain and hurt.  we talk about this stuff all the time and i just try to be there for her and let her know that there are somethings we can not control and it is ok to feel for someone you have never met.  Thanks for a good topic queen
