4 or 5 families on our block get together outside every couple of weeks to let the kids play while we chat.  Today I got a facebook friend request from one of my neighbor's 5 year old son.  We aren't that close.  I don't always agree with everything they do (that would fill up another thread) and my husband would like to distance ourselves from them.  Since that is close to impossible I just deal with it.  I don't like conflict so I just keep my mouth shut when I don't agree.

My problem is....
I'm obviously on Facebook.  My kids (3 and 6) don't know about it just because I tend to stay off the computer when they are home, unless I'm entering contests.  I don't want to accept the friend request.  I don't believe that a 5 y/o needs to see things that their parents can't control.  Also, I don't feel it is my place to censor myself because if what he may see....trust me, I'm not that exciting.

What should I do?  I know that if I don't accept it she will try to stir up some drama.

This shouldn't be a problem--ignore the request.  On their end, they can't see that the request was ignored, just that it was never accepted.  You shouldn't worry about what other people think.

With our Facebook page, we only accept friend requests from adults only; and they have to be actual friends and family we know.  We feel other adult friends may post something unacceptable for a child to see and don't want adolescents subjected to that.  I've even had to "hide" a number of friends for profane language.

Plus, you shouldn't have to answer to your neighbor for your actions.  It's really none of their business and would be nervy of them to even broach the topic with you.
