HERALD STUDENT TRAVEL EXPERIENCE CONTEST

Entry: To enter, write an essay of 150 words or fewer, telling us why you want to go on a backpacking trip and how you think it will affect your life or change your perspective.

Fill out the form here, with your essay.

be sure to include your e-mail, day and evening telephone numbers and contact info for a current or former teacher.

All entries must be received by March 16, 2007.

Limit one entry per person.

Entrants must be at least 18 by May 1, 2007, and no older than 25 by May 1, 2007. They must be enrolled full or part time in a public school or other accredited academic program.

And their permanent residence must be Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach or Monroe county (though they may go to school elsewhere).

Grand prize: Round-trip airfare from South Florida to Europe, a Eurail pass good for travel on any 15 days within a consecutive two-month period, a Hostelling International membership card and $250 travel voucher compliments of STA Travel, and $500 in cash.

Flights must be booked with American Airlines within 60 days of accepting this prize and at least 30 days prior to departure; maximum stay of one year permitted; all travel must be completed within one year of date of award. Subject to restrictions and availability. Some blackout periods may apply. The ticket is not valid for residents of Europe.

Total retail value of the prize is $2,500. Other expenses, fees and taxes are the responsibility of the winner.
