I signed up with Google alerts at www.googlealerts.com.  If your name is posted anywhere on the web including a winners list, you will be notified by email.  It's free and it works, I have been notified when my last name was mentioned in an article in France.

Unfortunately my last name shows up all the time, due to the Simpsons  error I expect this works really well for folks with less common names, however.

The only time it's ever worked for me was when I already knew about the wins weeks or months before the alert.

I guess when you have a more common name like Smith or Jones, not that there's anything wrong with them, you could be flooded with alerts.  It would only work well for someone like me who's last name is very rare in this country.

I have google alerts and anytime there was a judicial decision by a Judge I knew about it.  So I added my first name.  I don't get too many anymore, but my husband sure does with his name.  If there is anyone named Thomas, first or last, that goes before any Judge we know it.     crazy tongue

I signed up but ran into a problem when I found out that my name, Rebecca Lord, is also the name of a Porn star. Lucky me, apparently I am mentioned alot but not for the stuff I would like. Kind of funny but a little annoying, although I now know which people watch porn by the way they react to my name.  laughing

We've been using Google Alert for awhile now and have an uncommon last name.  Same thing here.  We get the alerts after the fact, when we were already informed of a win or received the win.  Sometimes, they even resend old ones.  We only got one once that was a new one we didn't know about.

I signed up for the google alerts and then I read about some tricks you can use to narrow down the results.

Put your name in between quotation " " marks with words like sweeps, sweepstakes, win, winner or your state and city outside the quotations.

I signed up for several notifications and use my first name then the last letter of my name, my full name, and a user name that I commonly use in sweeps.

I also read that if you have a shared name with someone (like someone wrote above with a porn star) you can do the alerts and at the end of them you could use the -sign to eliminate a certain subject -porn.

Good luck everyone!  Jeff
