WASHINGTON — Republicans are expected to deliver a daylong rant Wednesday against Democratic spending legislation, yet the bill is loaded with thousands of pet projects that Republican lawmakers inserted.

Rep. Ralph Hall , R- Texas , included $142,500 for emergency repairs to the Sam Rayburn Library and Museum in Bonham, Texas . Sen. John Ensign , R- Nev. , joined state colleagues to include $1.425 million for Nevada "statewide bus facilities." The top two Republicans on Congress' money committees also inserted local projects.

In all, an estimated $3.8 billion worth of specific projects, called "earmarks," are in the $410 billion spending bill that the House of Representatives is to vote on Wednesday. Easy passage is expected. The Senate is expected to act soon, too, since federal agencies will run out of money a week from Friday unless new funds are enacted.

Earmarks are back even though both parties' presidential candidates criticized them sharply last year. As recently as last week, President Barack Obama boasted that his economic stimulus plan was earmark-free

Guess he lied  laughing

You mean "they".

He only says what he's told to say and does what he's told to do.

A politician who doesn't keep his word?!?!  I can't believe it.. say it isn't so!

They, ALL of them, make promises they have no hope of keeping once the campaign is over... sometimes it gets tiring trying to sift through all the B.S.  All any of us can do is stay involved.  I will be emailing the President today to ask that he reject this new bill unless the earmarks are removed (or at least drastically reduced).  If enough people speak then perhaps we will be heard.

In point of fact, the stimulus bill that was recently signed did not "technically" have earmarks.  You could argue that there was wasteful spending in it (and I am sure you will, and I might even agree with you about some of it  laughing) but that much is true.

Oh my gosh he is a liar and he is a politician and there are earmarks in that stimulus.  laughing If you think there aren't that's your opinion.

He's just the messenger--a puppet!  He has no real power.  It's the corporate wolves lining the pockets of Congress that pull the President's strings.

I will, but I'm not going to hold my breath for a response.  I'm sure he gets thousands of emails everyday... he probably won't even see mine but that's not going to stop me from voicing my opinion.

I think we should be involved in what's taking place in our country. I pay attention because it concerns me and my wallet. I have sent e-mails to my congressmen and at least I can feel like I am doing my part.

Don't hold your breath!  Congressmen don't read jack squat including legislation.  That's what they have office gophers for.

...and they really don't care what the people want or think.
