is more talent competing this season although, there has been
wonderful and potential artists throughout every season.
Let’s face it America, to be a good competitor on AI, you must live
up to the standards of the music industry and some contestants, just
don’t have what it takes to be a star.
I’d like to do a recap if I may, merely an opinion of mine on the top
12 this season. It is not a bias opinion, I will share both negative
and positive about each finalist. Everyone of these finalist tried to
make the music they choose their own and I applaud them for a job well
done. Before I go on, I want to thank you for reading my overview of this
seasons American Idol.
Amanda Overmyer - A twist of rock and roll with a unique voice, Amanda
has the raspy vocals proven to create a great hit such as “Black
Velvet” sung by a lovely Melissa Ethridge who also had similar vocals.
Amanda exposed her “tough girl” personality with her attitude,
wardrobe and hair style, grabbing the attention of many Americans who became
a devoted fan. Amanda was voted off of AI March 19, 2008.
Brooke White- This beautiful and talented lady had brought in many of
her fans fascinating them with her voice and musical instrument
abilities. Unfortunately, this inspiration couldn’t keep up with the
competition. Stumbling over lyrics, forgetting them and at times not
“feeling” what she is trying to sing had cost her many of the votes she had
needed to stay in the finals. Brooke reminded me of Carly simon, an
amazing artist who fills your heart and soul with emotion in every lyric.
Brooke was voted off of AI April 30, 2008.
Carly Smithson - Wow, this Irish lad has it all! Beauty, voice, image.
Poor girl was thrashed in the media for her husband being labeled as
“freaks”. I would love to know what the difference between this
couple and other Rock and Roll couples are if they were labeled as such.
Carly wanted to be herself as with the other contestants, her personal
relationship or preferences should have nothing to do with who she is
artistically. Carly was voted off of AI April 23, 2008.
Chikezie - Chikezie, Chikezie, Chikezie…his name is fun to say,
isn’t it? I liked Chikezie, don’t get me wrong but, I never felt he was
AI material at all. His vocals didn’t hold up to the standards, in my
opinion, Chikezie would do well performing in theater or broadway.
Chikezie was voted off of AI March 26, 2008.
David Archuleta- This young man has a future ahead of him! Amazing
musical voice and there is something special about him. My only concerns
are that he licks his lips all too often while singing, it reminds me of
a lizard and he breaths heavily into the microphone between each lyric.
I also feel that he forces his voice to sound deeper, I hope this is
just part of puberty as David has a lot of potential. He won a star
search competition for goodness sakes, this boy is going to be a star!
David has stumbled on some of his lyrics and some of the songs did not
suit him at all but, I see him going places. David hasn’t been voted off
of AI as of this moment in time.
David Cook- When is the last time you heard someone on AI with a talent
such as David’s? Oh, that’s right! Chris Daughtry! (Whom I felt
was voted off unfairly, by the way). You can see the emotion with every
song David blares out, see the pain in his eyes, feel the music, etc.
This man is going places, he is unique and has the passion needed to
succeed in this industry. David cook hasn’t been voted off of AI as of
this moment in time.
David Hernandez- This heartthrob took America by surprise when the
media published some quite personal information about his recent past. Who
doesn’t has a past they aren’t proud of sometime in their lives?
David has a great knack for music and the image to go with it. I’m not
sure if he will make it in the music industries future but, he should
explore more options to perform. David was voted off of AI March 12,
2008.
Jason Castro- This adorable, young man has been quite lucky. Jason has
made it when others thought it was time for him to go home. Why? Only
speculations but, I think it has a lot to do with his image and the fan
base. Jason is laid back and I can only speculate and assume what
type of persona he lives outside of AI. I think he may go places, however,
I do not see Jason winning AI. Jason hasn’t been voted off of AI at
this moment in time.
Kristy Lee Cook- This lovely lady has a knack for country music, she is
not AI material in my opinion. You simply cannot make every song sound
great in country music, it’s just not possible. I see Kristy
releasing a country music album in the future, I loved her voice but, I
didn’t enjoy her as well as many of the other contestants. Kristy was voted
off of AI April 16, 2008.
Michael Johns- Wow, were you as shocked as I was when this Australian
hottie got voted off of AI? Michael had an amazing voice, great image
and an accent to boot. I feel that Michael was voted off prematurely and
I hope to see him performing again soon. Michael was voted off of AI
April 10, 2008.
Ramiele Malubay- This beauty has a delicate voice, I felt she was very
fragile and could be “broken” at any moment. I think Ramiele was
too shy and quite for the music industry, I also didn’t see enough
confidence within her. Ramiele has beautiful vocals, I think she would do
well in theater. Ramiele was voted off of AI April 2, 2008.
Syesha Mercado- Ok folks, we have a contestant whom if she doesn’t
win? Should definitely receive a record deal. Syesha has an amazing
voice, a beautiful image and can sing just about anything tossed at her. I
may not be rooting for Syesha to win the competition but, I do hope
she holds a bright, musical future. If anything, give this lady a ticket
to broadway to perform, Syesha has proven she can wow the crowd with
theatrical music. Syesha has not been voted off of AI at this moment in
time.
