My daughter and I both get them pretty bad. My youngest(five) came to me a short while ago crying that his head hurt really bad. I gave him some Tylenol and had him lay on the couch. He said the light hurt his eyes and then he threw up. I have had them most of my life and it sounds like a migraine. five seems really young to be getting them though. He isnt a crybaby so I knew it was serious the way he was crying. Does it sound like a migraine to yall? Im not sure what I should do. he threw up the tylenol but Im afraid to give him more. I dont want to OD him.

My daughter starting getting severe headaches that young  but doctors determined hers were sinus headaches after they did x-rays. She gets them really bad in the spring and fall of the year.

Migraines run in my family so I figured she was going to be one that got them also. My little sister had them start at a young age and my mom had migraines. My sister is on medication my mom never was for hers.

So don't rule out that he might be getting migraines at that age since you have them also. And from the sound of it your son sounds like he is getting migraines especially since he said the light hurt his eyes and he threw up.

Caitlyn was diagnosed that early.  I would definitely be calling and making an appointment.  Ashelyn has them now also, but they didn't start until she was about eight.

I am against Advil now (my kidney doctor's orders) but I would go ahead and give him some under the circumstances.  Tylenol doesn't have anything to take the swelling down and that is something that you have to have to get rid of a migraine.

Neither of my girls are on medicine for migraines, but both should be.  I found out during my MRI that I was having them also.  I have only had 3 headaches that seemed up to what I consider migraines, but my doctor said that if I have always had them that I could not even recognize that they were really that bad...okay dokie!!

Thanks guys. I quess I was wishing I was wrong about it. I dont want him going thru these. They are awful. I felt terrible for him. so helpless ya know. I will be calling the doc and see what he says. I would prefer not to medicate him but I will if there is no other option. I know the advil and aleeve work better but im still kinda leary about giving it to him. I just hope this isnt going to be a regular thing. It is for my daughter. When I cant find the washcloths I know they are in her room. she gets up in the middle of the night and gets one wet with cold water and puts it on her forehead. seems to work for her. I dont know why she doesnt reuse the washcloths.  scratch She will have five or six in there before I notice. anyway, thanks again. I quess its not that unusual at this age so Im not gunna freak out. laughing

Poor babies, that has to be aWful.  My neighbor's daughter had been suffering from migraines at a very early age.  She ended up being diagnosed with a syndrome, I don't remember the name, but it came about from an allergy to wheat products, mainly gluten, it's present in many things.  Talk to their doctor and in the meantime read food labels and try to give them as much organic gluten free products you can find.  Wishing you the best of luck.

Have you tried Excedrine Migraine? I think I've also seen it for children.

That is what my daughter takes for her sinus headaches and it works better than anything else she has tried taking.

I started getting migraines when I was 6. Turns out a big part of mine are allergy related.

thanks for the responses. I told his doctor about it and he told me to keep a headache diary and when he gets another one give him something with caffine in it. never heard of that before. how do they find out if its allergy's? do they do that thing where they stick ya with all kinds of stuff to find out what you are allergic too?

Wow I've never heard of giving caffeine for a headache neither.

I have heard that if you were drinking a lot of caffeine and then suddenly stopped drinking caffeine that you will get headaches.
