Does anyone else here have this?
It was just discovered this week that I have this and was put on medication for it Monday. Mine was so bad that my doctor told me I was a walking living miracle to be alive because my TSH level was so high. It was 150.0. She said I should have went into a coma and died because it was so high. She said I had no oxygen in my body at all and she didn't see how I was getting from point A to point B.
Today is the 3rd day of taking the medication and she said it could take up to two weeks for me to get the full effects of the medication to start feeling better and notice an improvement in my body. I will be so glad to get energy back again.

YIKES pdm - good thing they caught it!!! I just did a search: http://www.endocrineweb.com/hypo1.htmlSymptoms of Hypothyroidism
Fatigue Weakness Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight Coarse, dry hair Dry, rough pale skin Hair loss Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you) Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches Constipation Depression Irritability Memory loss Abnormal menstrual cycles Decreased libidoAnd the only symptoms I don't have are Cold intolerance, Abnormal menstrual cycles (I think - had a partial hysterectomy, so not sure ) and Decreased libido. Pretty sure they checked me out at the VA for this though? With fibro, so many symptoms are the same, it's hard to know when something might really be going wonky on me!!! Let us know how the meds work out for you!!!

Almost a year after having my first child I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I was put on heart medication and PTU to help control my levels. I had lost 90lbs. in less than a year. The weight loss would have been welcomed, but it made me incredibly weak. I took the medication for about six months until I became pregnant with my son. I continued w/ the meds for a while during pregnancy but eventually stopped. My doctors were not too happy with me but I felt great. After having my son my levels returned to normal. It was then when they realized that I had hashimotos. Which means I can at any time go back and forth between hyper and hypo. It has been almost four years and I haven't had any symptoms return. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping it will stay away for good.

I have been checked for this numerous times because I have every single symptom but so far my results have come back normal...it is starting to frustrate me because I know this is my problem it runs in my family...i have gained 30 pounds in less than 4 months with no change in my eating habits,I suffer from depression, have abnormal periods etc...but what can I do if my blood tests keep coming back normal

I've also had each one of those symptoms but never associated it with being my thyroid. I also never suspected anything to be wrong with my thyroid because it doesn't run in my family.

I have hypothroidism as well. I was diagnosed 2-3 years ago. I take a synthetic hormone pill every day for the rest of my life to make the hormone my body doesn't. It's called syntroid, but the generic is levothroxin. I take small dose .88mcg. I've been on same dose for a couple years. I get checked once a year now at annual physical. In the beginning I think they check you every month, then every 6 months until you get stabilized.

Levothyroxin is what I'm taking it's 50MCG. She said she would probably up that dosage when I come back in November to run the test again. She said I would have to take it for the rest of my life. The good news it's only 4 buxs a month at Walmart!

PDM, I am so sorry that you are feeling bad. I know exactly what you are going through.
I was diagnosed in April and my TSH was an 8. I have all those symptoms and am on 100mcg of Synthroid and .5mcg of Cymtol. I still do not feel better. I go and have blood work every 6-8 weeks. Don't believe your doctors when they say your thyroid levels are normal. Define normal! Ask to see the lab report. Most feel better when their TSH is between 0-2. Have other tests too...Free T3 and Free T4, Antibodies, etc. Read "Living Well with Hypothyroidism" by Mary Shoman.
Hugs,
Janet

PDM, I am so happy that they were able to get you a diagnosis. Sometimes that is a problem itself. I had mine checked at the beginning of the year as every woman in my family has hypothyroidism. My tests came out normal. Here's hoping you a feeling alot better soon.

My doctor told me that usually anything over 30.0 puts you in a coma and you die. My doctor said I was just a living walking miracle that I was still alive with mine reading 150.0. She said it would take quite a while and that I was still not out of the danger zone until they get mine under 30.0.
I can already start to tell a difference but by mid afternoon I can feel the medicine wearing off and I get real sluggish and run down.
