And I screwed up! I am by no means a hairstylist but I thought I could trim a near 1 year old's hair. Well, he moved at the last second and now he has a 2 in by 2 in semi bald spot on his left side near his ear. His hair is light ash blonde and it isn't awful looking but it IS noticeable and I am so mad at myself!

(whine) I just wanted to save some money!  cry

I know hair grows and all...but I feel like such a jerk.

Why is it these little things I mess up on make me feel like a crappy mommy???

I don't know how much hair your son had, but you should wait until he gets to the age where he can at least be coaxed to sit still.  I'm not sure a beautician would even do it.  I know ours won't.  They move around too much at that age and can be easily stabbed with the scissors.

You can always stick a hat on him for now!  whistle Waving

ahh dont beat yourself up.. it happens.  it will grow back and its only hair after all. And trust me you will look back on this and laugh and have a funny story to tell him.  I can say that because im no longer allowed to touch any of the kids hair.   whistle   I have be banned from their heads for years.

I cant cut a straight line to save my life so my daughters bangs looked like someone chewed the hair off and the boys..even with the trimmer, just trying to buzz them, I would screw it up..  I do get to trim  the dog occasionally but even then it looks like someone who had a seizure went at him.   laughing

and I bet you're a great mom.   Smile

sunny  Be sure to take pics so you can show him when he gets older.  It's not like you cut his ear off. If that's the worse thing you ever do is give a bad haircut, then you have nothing to feel bad about.

I understand both of your pain!  It isn't funny, but it is, and it will be to you one day also, starryeyes!  I would start out SO good on one side and then it would go in a slanted line up towards the other side.  So I would always try to even it out.  My girls would end up with no bangs before it was over.  Caitlyn finally ended up letting hers grow completely out, but Ashelyn has to have bangs or she would never go to sleep.  She is a professional bang flipper.  So I try to keep my scissors away from their hair ~ lol!

On a brighter note, it is still better than what happen to my sister's girls.  When her dd's were little the oldest one decided that she needed to give the little one a hair cut.  She cut half of her butt length long hair off up to her elbows in great big chunks.  Karen almost had a nervous breakdown over that!!  Of course she had to take her and have it cut and straightened up.  She can even laugh about that now...

No matter how tight the finances, there is always room in the budget to pay someone else to do the haircutting!

It looks slightly better - I evened it out a bit more. He wouldn't let me do much more - he was probably trying to get me away from him!

But it's going to be like 15 degrees with a below zero wind chill. Hats are on the agenda as well as just not leaving the house. It is nice to know I am not the only one! And I will be springing for the 15 bucks next time to go to a profesional!! LOL...I learned the hard way!

I still have a scar on my ear from where an instructor at the local community college beauty school cut me. She was showing the students how to cut thinning hair to make it look fuller (this is before I lost it all) and nearly whacked my ear off. She had to put ice on it to stop the bleeding. I felt very ill and faint. She had been teaching there for 18 years.

Reminds me of when my sons were little . . .

My parents had 12 kids. I think there was at least one or two times we would look like those little China dolls with a bowl cut  laughing

Starryeyes, don't let it get to you. In a few years, right before Christmas pictures, he'll decide to cut his OWN hair!  laughing I swear every kid does that and it's always right before school pictures or Christmas pictures.

Not that I did it, naturally.  whistle

^^LOL! I remember cutting my own hair as a kid. I look back at my 3-4th grade photos and cringe! I also used to cut my Barbies hair ~ and color it with markers!   cry Maybe that was a sign??
