so my youngest is in school now and I guess this being alone all time thing is getting to me.   crazy tongue  I just finished making their lunches for school and with the youngest I have to make shapes out of his sandwich(he wont eat it otherwise). I use cookie cutters. So this morning I decide on the snowman. I cut it out and it looks plain. so I spend 15 mins with a straw making little round bologna buttons and eye balls for it. then make more round ones and cut them in half for the smile followed by taking a knife and making a little hat for it. omg!! I need help. and quickly. I gotta say it looks really cute but is he really gunna notice. no! he is just going to pop it in his mouth.

I think you are wonderful. Children are only young once. Soon enough you will have a teen that thinks you are totally off your rocker if you try to do something fun. Make childhood magical. Plus, next time, just use raisins for the eyes. It's alot easier! LOL laughing

sunny You aren't crazy, just a loving mom. When I was preparing lunches for my son and then grandkids, I was always trying to make their lunchtime a funtime for them. Putting in little surprises or notes.
It must have stuck with my granddaughter, as now when I go there to visit and return home, I find little love notes from her in my purse and baggage.
  Keep up the good work!

Old bugs - LOL - thanks for the chuckle!  You are a REALLY NICE MOM!!  My own kids were just lucky to get a sandwich at all (it was all I could do to make a lunch for them, just waking up and all!).  He will probably remember this forever.... Smile

Have you ever seen the lunches Japanese mothers make? They are amazing!

ICHIHARA, Japan - Kazumi Shimomura's kitchen table is cluttered with tools not usually associated with cooking: A pair of tweezers, a razor knife and a digital camera.

Her culinary style is just as unique.

She sculpts rice colored with egg yolks into the shape of a dinosaur, fashions its eye with sliced cheese and strips of seaweed. Star-shaped pieces of okra adorn the belly

tharedhead,

I adore those little inari sushis in the link you provided. I had been thinking of Japanese lunch boxes when I read this thread, but it would be too difficult to explain. Your picture-link is worth 1,000 words...make that 1,000 kanji.
