Received this email today.......  not sure if it is legit or not.

You have received an Itunes Gift Certificate in the amount of $50
You can find your certificate code in attachment below.

Then you need to open iTunes. Once you verify your account, $50 will be credited to your account.
So you can start buying video, music, games right away.

iTunes Store.

Has anyone else received an email like this and know anything?

I think it's a scam, they usually do the codes inside the body of the email

Thanks so much for your responses.  I just was not comfortable opening the attachment.  I tried calling them and could not get anyone in the iTunes dept, but the people I did talk to were not aware of anything that had gone out.

Thanks again.........  it is good having SA to go to for questions such as this!

vicki,

As a general rule of caution, do not open attachments!

In this case and others, you can copy and paste the message into the Google search bar and you will find lots of reports warning that it is a hoax. Try it. I just did and wow, lots of people received the same message.

AGREED!!! I also NEVER open email I'm unsure of - I right click it and check properties. I see if the return path is the same/correct, and BLINGO it if I'm unsure.

FYI, if you have the preview pane on in your email you DON'T have to open the email to get infected - so you need to close that ASAP.
Click on View, then Layout. UNcheck the preview pane box and hit OK (if you hit apply, you will still have to hit OK)

Surfing is like politics - you have to dig a little deeper to figure out the easy/user friendly/chicken in every pot approach has a serious downside!!!  crazy tongue  nono whistle
