As some of ya know we moved from FL to IL a year ago. My husbands former employer has called every couple of months trying to get him back. He called again last night. Heres the deal. My husband makes around 50K a year, gets free ins for the entire family and the owner of the co puts 3000. a year in his 401K. pretty good deal right? The job offer is for a yearly salary of 52K a year plus 2% commission. The salesman they have now make, with commission, in between 85K-120K a year. plus he would get a company vehicle. He drives a truck right now for a living. He would be a really good salesman. Hes very friendly. The opposite of me But it would mean moving again. I dont know what to do. Its a really good offer. to good to just dismiss ya know. But I like it here. I dont know what to do. What would you do? Im really curious.

I would look at a few things.
1. How do the kids feel?
2. Cost of relocation.
3. Where do all of you prefer living?
4. Quality of life. Money aside, where would you all enjoy the best quality of life. i.e. more time together, better schools, economy, job security...
Best of luck with your decision. I know it's a tough one.

I would say that this would mainly be up to whether your husband is interested in the new job. If they really want him, they may be agreeable to help pay for relocating. Be sure to have hubby ask if he is considering the offer. Time for a family meeting to get everyone involved and to at least feel like they are part of the decision process. Even kids like to feel like they are part of the process. Best of luck in finding the right answer for your family.

That's a hard one isn't it. Change is good but being a salesman can be tricky. As long as he get's the salary you are safe in knowing how much is coming in but make sure it won't start out as salary and then after a while change to commission only. We have one girl at our office who went from a nice weekly paycheck everyweek to getting a BIG FAT 0 every week because she wouldn't go on sales calls. On the other hand the guy down stairs just cleared $68,000.00 from one sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's some nice coin!!!!!!!!!

Just a note to my last comment-if this old boss keeps trying to get your hubby to come back, he must really see great potential in him. Hmmmmmmmmmm, Florida sure sounds nice.

Thanks guys. I think if we took a poll about where we all wanted to live it would be split down gender lines. my daughter and I love it here. The boys not so much. And my husband. well, im not sure. He's one of those guys that just kinda go with the flow. ya know. Drives me crazy. After the 04 hurricane season when we were hit by three in six weeks we starting making plans for the move to IL. funny thing is though. we werent here 3 wks and tornados came thru and totally destroyed the back yard, no power for 5 days. and then a ice storm that hadnt been seen in this area in over 30 yrs hit. no power, no heat. so, I quess wherever ya go you are gunna have issues. we are talking. and we will see what happens. That's a hard one isn't it. Change is good but being a salesman can be tricky. As long as he get's the salary you are safe in knowing how much is coming in but make sure it won't start out as salary and then after a while change to commission only. 68,000. wow! thats a nice sum of money. With this job the salary would be 52K a year plus the commision. And he could sell jobs. so that wouldnt be an issue. He worked for them before but working the jobs, not selling them. he could though. since he worked the jobs he knows all the people. but, I dont know. honestly I wish the guy had never called.

My only advice is to get it in writing. I think the Hurricanes were a freak thing that year. It has been pretty quiet since. The cost of living in Florida seems better than most states but thats just my opinion. Based on my experience living in MA and NH . Sales could be his thing.

well we decide to stay where we are Im so happy. We dont want to pack everything up again and uproot the kids. Besides I think the job will always be there if he wants it. If we decide later to move all he has to do is call the guy. Thanks everyone for your advice it was helpful.

You must be relieved to have that over with. Sometimes, staying with what you have is a good thing. I am sure the children are pleased. I remember moving as a kid and it was really hard.

So happy to hear that you came up with an answer that makes everyone happy! That is great news, of course you may ask yourself why you made that decision when you get one of those really cold snowy winters!
