If you follow NY sports:

The Yankees' manager Joe Torre is leaving the team after being "insulted" by a one year $5,000,000 contract offer. They didn't make enough of a commitment, so he's leaving, and the man on the street is going, yah, poor old Joe, he wuz wronged. Blah-blah-blah.

You can insult me with $5,000,000 any time. Look at all those zeros. Insult me, yeah.  scratch

Not to be the devils advocate here: BUT (there's always a but)  if you catch up on the entire story, you will see that he is really one classy guy and he did the right thing.  He was basically booted out of a job he has had for 12 years.  Read up on it and I'll bet you will think the same.

Right on Joe Torre.  He did the right thing the way Steinbrenner was treating him for the past three years or so and creating a circus in the media.  Steinbrenner expects to win the championship every single year.  He's an arrogant, egotistical, pompous grits.  Joe Torre put up with enough of his nonsense and irrationality.  Steinbrenner is never going to find a coach to fill his shoes with his record.

Right on Joe!!! headbang

If you let a die hard Red Sox fan put in her 2 cents without throwing rotten tomatoes at me, I have to agree that Torre did the right thing.  It wasn't the amount of money that was offered, it was the way the offer was made, the pay cut, the incentive bonuses...  It was meant to make him quit.

I think he took the high road.  He is well respected amongst his players and fellow coaches.  That says a lot!
