I need help. I cant get my four year old to keep his clothes on I have tried everything I can think of, But everytime I turn around he is running around in his underwear. Now, It wouldnt be so bad if we still lived in Florida and it was 90 degrees in the house but we live in Illinois now. Its about 45 degrees here right now and I just had to put his clothes back on him. I dont get it. Im freezing and hes running around pretty much naked. He is going to get really sick if I cant break him of this. Ideas? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I also have a four year old who hates clothes. Tuesday he was in his Spongebob boxer briefs, holding a rope, in the rain, being pulled behind our quad by his 11 year old brother through the fresh mud puddles in our front drive :?
By the time I saw them the muddy damage had already been done so I let them carry on until he was too cold to play anymore, then straight into the tub. Luckily I watched Oprah that day and the topic was medical myths. He won't get sick from being cold, so don't worry. Let him run around in his underwear until he gets too cold to do it, or old enough to be embarassed by it. Besides, being four years old you get to do stuff we as adults can't do, ya know, like run around anywhere or anytime we want in our undies :P
My four year old is the youngest of four boys, so my advice is, if he isn't hurting himself or anyone/anything else, and he's occupied and having fun, save your battle for another issue. They'll be more, lots more :wink:

I will try not to let it bother me. Cause there are a lot of other things to battle with him about. Like he was in the backyard and got into the fire pit he had ash from the top of his head to his feet. He was filthy. All you could see were his eyes. What was he thinking.

I know that you were serious, but this has got to be one of the funniest threads on this board! (I can say that now that my boys are grown up!)

:D :lol: Thanks for the laugh. Brings back so many memories of my own son. If that's the worse thing he does you have it made. He probably enjoys the attention you give him when he does it. Just remind him it's ok to run around that way in your house but that big boys wear clothes when they go outside. Also only little boys that wear their clothes are old enough to attend school. It's just a phase, he will get cold and put his clothes back on. Enjoy him him while you can!

aww, that's sweet... When you think things are going crazy with your four year old, try and imagine having two of them. Mine are 3 and they both refuse to wear clothes in the house. They also like to stand in the window and dance naked. I am waiting for child welfare to drive by! But wait that's not the worst of it, when we potty trained them, the only thing that worked was a tree so imagine what kind of things you can see when driving past my house. Moral is remember it could be worse.

I know. The things they can do to ya. My son always takes his underwear off when he uses the bathroom and then wants me to put them back on. Well, imagine my surprise one day when Im outside talking to a neighbor and here he comes running down the driveway holding his underwear in his hand. Naked as the day he was born. I couldnt do anything but laugh it off and quickly get him back in the house. I couldnt imagine having two to deal with. No thank you. He is my last. Good thing too. If he had been my first he would have been an only child. I promise you.

I have 3 kids ~ now 16, 13, and 9. I never really had any trouble with the oldest, but my two daughters both loves being naked. The 13 year old quickly outgrew hers, but my nine year old STILL loves running around in just her underwear. She will occasionally get her Daddy's shirts down and wear them around when she gets cold, but most of the time it is underwear.
She knows better than to go outside, and in summer she is in "hog heaven" because she can run around in a bathing suit :D :D I just hope this is not a sign of skinny dipping to come :oops:

OK - I'm a little late reading this - but trust me ladies this does bring back memories of childrearing - mine are 24 and 21 now and I am soon to be grandma so here is my advice to you
if they are not hurting themselves - let them go they do outgrow it and all children do outgrow it. Ages 2, 3 and 4 are the exploring years where they are checking out their little bodies - just wait till they start checking out the other sex at playschool - LOLOL
anyway - remind them that if they get cold - put on their clothes and if they go outside THEY MUST PUT ON CLOTHES that it is not polite to play outside without clothes where other people can see them. Point out that the neighbors and the other kids wear clothes outside, and they get the point eventually.
Have fun - I did, but now I am glad those days are long gone..

Oh my! This is all too familiar! While he doesn't run around naked anymore, my 6 year old, only son does the same things. :lol: I've enjoyed reading all of your stories!

I would try taking him to the store and allowing him to choose three weather appropriate outfits that he MOST wants to wear (you would have to direct him to section from which he may select). If new clothing is not in the budget right now, I would tell him that because he is such a big, smart boy now that he now gets to choose what clothes he wants to wear most. I find that kids are more likely to go along if they are in control of something or if it is something they really like.

i just came upon this...so funny...i have two kids ..a 4yr old boy and an 8yr old girl and they both do the same thing..strip there clothes off at home..and i can be freezing too,fingertips numb..and they just have underwear or panties on...i keep telling my eight year old she needs to keep her clothes on,she's getting to be a big girl,and starting to sprout..even when they stay with there grandparents..they strip down...i hate it to especiallly when i need to go somewhere..i have to wait for them to get dressed again!

I have a 17 month old boy and found him in his playpen naked holding up his diaper to his nose and smelling his poop. I've also gotten him out of his crib in the morning naked with a puddle of pee on the floor. You mean to tell me that at 4 yrs old it doesn't get any better! Thanks a bunch for popping my hopeful bubble.  I have 3 older daughters and I have to say that boys are definately a whole different experience. |

I had forgotten about this. little ones do the strangest things sometimes. I wish I felt comfortable enough in my skin to run around naked. my little one is now five. he no longer runs around naked instead he changes his clothes 5-10 times a day. im not kidding. from the time he got home from school yesterday until he went to bed he had changed his clothes 4 times.  dont know why. I figure its best not to ask.

You know I just have to get my two cents in here but I love to run around naked to. Of course it's not highly recommended considering that I am 43 years old BUT if I was four you can bet I would be naked all day long. I forget how sweet and innocent they are at that age. Enjoy it. Before long they will be driving a car.

LOL well now we know all the kids like to run around naked.... oh... and fearsgirl. My daughter does this too, shes 4, it must be the age. Well she went to the store the other day with my mom (her grandma) and real loud said, "Grandma please buy me these pjs, I go to bed in my underware everynight. My mom was so embarrassed. She said real loud, "Well I will have to talk to your mom about that." I guess the people in the store thought she was the mom. Funny thing is, I will put pjs on her, she wears them for about an hour, and then its back to the underware. Even when its cold. My husband hates it. I don't really care, but sometimes it makes me upset because I will have her all dressed ready to go somewhere, then I have to use the bathroom, I will come back and she will be half undressed. |

Ashelyn is still the underwear queen! It doesn't matter if there is two feet of snow on the ground she is in her undies! Last night I went in her bedroom and she had (now get this one) stripped to her underwear, stripped the sheets off the bed, put the cover on the mattress and covered up with her Dad's winter coat To say that I don't understand the child is an understatement!! She is also going through this stage where she wants to get in her closet and get down all of her clothes, try them on and then throw them in the floor  She is getting ready to do this  I have just about had enough of that one! I believe that one warning is enough on that one  |
