Pa wants Thad to take the Neptune's wheel.

Now here's your turn — and a chance to win an ice cream party for your class — if you enter our "Sudden Squall Sweepstakes."

Here's how:

Step 1: Draw your boat. It could be a side-paddle freighter like the Neptune — or whatever strikes your imagination.

Step 2: Pick your crew and put them on the boat. It can be as few as one but no more than four — just like on the Neptune.

They could be your mom or dad, your brother or sister, your best friend — even your pet.

Be sure to give them a job (first mate, cook, etc.).

And don't forget to include yourself at the wheel.

Step 3: Name your boat. Give it some thought. A boat's name usually reflects its captain — you.

We'll publish our favorite pictures after the series ends in November.

And for the winner: an ice cream party for your class, which is a lot better than buried treasure.

Send your entries to: News & Record, 200 East Market St., Greensboro, N.C. 27420 c/o Sudden Squall Sweepstakes, Mike Kernels.

Deadline for entries is Nov. 17.

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
