Okay, I have sooooooo had it!!!  cussing

I am so sick and tired of having to clean the drip pan every time I make a big pot of rice!

Does anyone here know a trick to cooking rice so that it doesn't foam up, ooze out from the lid and puke all over?

Put a toothpick in between the pot and lid to let it vent a little bit.  It's the built up steam that makes it foam up, and you need to let some of it out.

You need to make sure you use a large enough pot and the heat is not too high.

Rice and I don't get along so I have to buy rice in bags, instant rice, etc. I cannot for the life of me cook rice correctly and believe me I have tried many times.  This is a really inexpensive staple and I can't make it. cussing

I would like to win or buy a rice cooker one of these days because, I hear it's almost fool proof when making rice.

If you have trouble working with rice, use Uncle Ben's.  It's first soaked and steamed and the dried.  This process removes the bulk of the starch, and the rice doesn't stick together.

Number one: use real rice. Not minute maid. Jasmine is my preference.

Number two: Get a rice cooker. It works best.

Number three and best advice: just hire an Asian  whistle laughing

I was looking at rice cookers until I noticed people in the reviews on Amazon complaining of the very thing I do, that they had constant "foam over" from the rice cooker.

The link that pmeek posted shows a very different technique for cooking rice than what it says on the package. It basically combines what Lidarkside said with also rinsing the rice before cooking. I can see where that might work to prevent the foaming up... I think I am going to give this method a try next time I cook up a pot of rice.

I am using real jasmine rice, it is my favorite too! I can get a good texture and consistency, just tired of the foam over.

Thank you so much for all the help guys!  cheers love

Biker babe, Get a rice pot. And price is NOT always the best.

My sister has an Aroma 4 quart pot she got at Walmart or Amazon. It doesn't have the fancy stuff but it works VERY well. A rice cooker is going to always be better than a pot on the stove. I think it cost her $25 or so. Nothing fancy, the only thing she doens't like is it doesn't have a warmer, but it's great for the price.

Do you eat alot of rice? Heres what I do. Get a big bowl, put rice in it. Then fill it up with water, and put it in the microwave for like 6 minutes depending on serving size. It never seems to boil over. And taste good. I just put the salt pepper, butter on after its cooked.

I agree completely I am cajun and we eat a lot of rice. I love my rice cooker and have never had a problem using it. Just plug it in and that's it. Mine is not fancy and it does have the warmer. I bought one for my daughter at christmas and it's got a nonstick surface whereas mine does not.

Mine is a black & decker but it's older and doesn't have the non stick pot inside. I think the one I got my daughter was the same but can't remember. I got it from WAL MART and paid around $20. I do rinse my rice sometimes but only to get the extra starch off. Also I cook whole wheat so I have to add more water to cook it longer but like I said I have been using a rice cooker for years and wouldn't be without one.

You can cook lentils in the basic walmart rice cooker, too. My friend Jimmy cooks the red ones with garlic and stuff (his family is from Jamaica) in his cheap-o rice cooker.

Your welcome and deffinately go for the non atick. I think it would do a better job because the rice does stick some in mine. And you don't need the expensive one IMO. Smile

Honestly, I could never cook rice either. I watched a cooking show and the chef said to cook it like pasta. Don't leave the lid on, cook it the pasta way-trust me, it's perfect every time! Will only work with white rice, not brown. crazy tongue

There's only 3 of us in the house and that just enough with left overs for fried rice the next day.... mmmmmmmm
