Quote
A majority of voters in Florida and Arizona on Tuesday agreed to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman

Quote
California's ballot measure remained undecided early Wednesday. This was the first time such a vote has taken place in state where gay unions are legal. Massachusetts is the only other state where gay marriage is legal, although some other states recognize civil unions.

Quote
In Arkansas, voters banned unmarried couples living together from being adoptive or foster parents.

Quote
Marijuana decriminalized
In Washington state, voters decided to join Oregon as the only states offering terminally ill people the option of physician-assisted suicide.

Michigan approved medical marijuana, and Massachusetts decriminalized the possession of an ounce or less of marijuana.

Quote
In South Dakota, voters defeated an initiative to ban abortion except in cases of rape, incest and serious health threat to the mother. A tougher law without the rape and incest exceptions was defeated in 2006.

some good ones and some really, really bad ones..  nono

Ok I guess im confused on how some of the amendments went. Did all the states vote amendments for thier own state? So some states are different?

Where do I find which amendments won?

The CA vote is very disappointing (although not quite called yet, the answer seems to be "yes").  It was polling as a "no" vote (which would keep gay marriage) but the polls seemed to be off just a few percent.   cry

FL and AZ were expected.

Arkansas will be sorry about that vote - it's hard enough to get any (much less good) foster and adoptive parents and they just took not only all the gay couples out of the mix, but the heterosexual couples who chose not to marry.  It will also add extra work for single parents/foster parents to prove that no one lives with them (or moves in).

WA and OR are the wave of the future on that issue - just wait until the boomers are slowly dying horrible deaths - then we will see suicide rights increase.  (Disagree?  Spend a month in an ICU and see how you feel after that.)

As a chronic pain sufferer, I'm happy about the marijuana votes (although not much help here in TX), but it needs to be go national.

The abortion battle will rage on (possibly forever), but the SD voters made the right call on this amendment.

I honestly don't see why more states don't do this..  It could really ease the pain for a lot of people. I'm mean seriously, its not like we are talking about crack or meth.

Don't get me started.laughing I'm the one who wants the US to legalize the excessively demonized diamorphine for end stage cancer pain. If you're dying anyway, what is the risk of addiction? Its pretty self limiting....

It's embarrassing in this country the way we treat the dying.  If my pet is in pain and can't be saved, it's fine to put him out of his misery.  But humans?  We have:  limited pain medication (as you mentioned), the requirement that a patient indicate pain personally to receive medication (unable to communicate?  then suffer*), letting a person who can't be saved die slowly and horribly (suffocate, drown in their own lung fluids, etc).  Spend any time in an ICU and you will wonder when we will treat humans as "humanely" as we treat pets.

*unless your family agrees to remove you from life support, then they will give pain medication

yeah I find it odd that someone who cant speak because of no brain activity or "no hope" of recovery the family can pull the plug. But someone who is of sound mind and can express their wishes are denied the same right. Its bizarre.
