At the mall the other day, a major local radio station had a drawing.
I won 4 tickets to Disneyland, which is great. I had to fill out an affy on the spot.  They asked for my S.S.# and Driver's License.  They assured me it was only for tax purposes.  Anyone out there have any thoughts on this issue?

any win over $600 has to be reported to the IRS, and to be issued a 1099 form (prize winners tax form) they need your SS#.

Thank you all for your advice.  I already won the tickets (it will be mailed to me).  I could have gone to the station in Los Angeles, but it was too far for me, as I don't drive the freeways.  The S.S.# was not requested on the entry form.  They told me that even though the prize was under $600.00, they still have to send the information to the IRS.  I don't need to report it to the IRS.  I decided to trust them and faxed them the information.  They said they never had any problems with ID theft with their contestants.  They are one of the biggest radio stations in LA.  I'll let you  know if I made a mistake.  Hope not!
