I hope everyone will consider signing this also. This health bill is a big deal and we need to make sure our representatives read it first. This is too important to rush through.

Congressmen never read the bills in full.  They use interns and such to read them and advise them of the content.

I'm still trying to make sense out of the "cash for clunkers" program and trying to figure out if our van qualifies...

I know they never read the darn bills but it's time they do. We voted them in so let's put the pressure on. This healthcare bill is just too important to screw it up for all of us.

Cash for clunkers is another joke IMO.If you can't afford a new vehicle why would you want to put yourself in debt. Sounds like the mortgage thing all over.

It'll never happen.  They have piles and piles of pending legislation most of which are 1,000+ pages.  They probably wouldn't have time to sleep if they tried to read it all themselves.  So, that's why they have hired gophers to do it for them.

I think it's equally bad when people decide whether legislation is good or bad (it's almost always bad anyway) without reading a single paragraph of it.  All someone has to tell them is that it's good, and they believe it.

laughing maybe you can afford the new van. You probably really do need it.

Well they better start reading the bills. I need for them to know what we are going to be giving our hard earned tax dollars to.

They know what's in the bills.  Their pockets are well-lined by corporate America to care what we want or think.  They've been bought and paid for by the highest bidder! nono

I just submitted my petition. The thing that gets me the most is that some of these senators are so brazen to say things like "We are pushing this bill through". No Bill should be signed without everyone knowing the effects and having a chance to argue any opposition.

But then again we have a president that would call a police officer "stupid" without even knowing the facts too.

Lead by example I guess.....

headbang I am with you 100%. We don't need to rush any of this through. This is about our children and our grandchildren. Look what happened when we rushed the stimulus bill through. No change in the White House. You can't rush this health reform but have you noticed it's now being called insurance reform.

Good thing those blue dog democrats are standing firm. I saw that speech the other night and I knew immediately when he said they acted stupidly he just put his foot in his mouth. Perhaps it was an attempt to distract everyone while they try and rush the insurance reform. Well at least it's not happening before August break.

Let Freedom Ring sent a pledge to the 500+ members of Congress to sign stating they would read the bill in full before voting and would also release a copy of the bill to the public 72 hours before the voting.  A copy of the pledge is on this site and also the current list of Congress members who have signed it.  Interesting...

Opponents of ObamaCare argue that this five-page section of a 1,000-page bill is actually an attempt to pressure senior citizens into opting out of expensive live-saving therapy.

It brings to mind Boomsday, a 2007 satirical novel by ForbesLife editor at large Christopher Buckley, in which the government solves its fiscal problems by offering tax breaks to those who kill themselves before retirement age.

The idea that we don't provide adequate care for the elderly is appalling. No offense but I'm no spring chicken so what does that mean to me in 20 years and I need more medical attention than I do now.

The other day I was watching debates on health-care reform and when the topic of the elderly came up I thought about Soylent Green. If you know the movie you might know why this came up for me. Let's hope it never comes to this.

Thank goodness it's not going to be done before their break.

President Obama has made reference multiple times to the fact that his grandmother received an expensive hip replacement while she was terminally ill with cancer, holding it up as an example of spending that sometimes takes place near the end of life. He's wondered whether the country can afford those kinds of bills, even though he said he would have paid for grandmother's hip out of pocket

This particular quote from the link provided by red concerns me. It should be left up to the patient and/or the patients family to decide what sort of care they receive. Not the government.

Here is some more on the hip thing:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/01/us/politics/30web-baker.html
Quote
“ Whether, sort of in the aggregate, society making those decisions to give my grandmother, or everybody else’s aging grandparents or parents, a hip replacement when they’re terminally ill is a sustainable model is a very difficult question.”

He went on to say: “If somebody told me that my grandmother couldn’t have a hip replacement and she had to lie there in misery in the waning days of her life, that would be pretty upsetting.”

At the heart of the health care debate that will soon occupy Washington is just that conundrum. As an intellectual matter, it’s one thing to say that it makes no sense for a country to spend so much on procedures that ultimately will do little to extend or improve the lives of those nearing death. But as a personal matter, it’s another to deny your own grandmother an operation that may at least make her last days more comfortable.

I still feel it should be left up to the family and their doctor to decide what care the elderly receive. Not some independent group. Or government. This is a difficult issue no doubt and again more reason to read the darn bill.

Oh no, Cash for Clunkers just got more confusing

Shazam! Your car magically gets more miles per gallon! That's what some consumers hoping to take advantage of the government's "Cash For Clunkers" program are discovering. And the result is that they suddenly no longer qualify for up to $4500 voucher

They can't do simple car trade ins, and they want to determine who gets a hip replacement? error

Just a few that stand out for me.

PG 59 Line 21-24 Government will have direct access to your banks accounts for electronic funds transfer!

PG 85 Line 7 Specs for of Benefit Levels for Plans = The Government will ration your HealthCare! #AARP members – your Health care Will be rationed.

PG 95 Line 8-18 The Government will use groups i.e., ACORN & Americorps to sign up individuals for Government HealthCare plan.

PG 119 Line 1-3 Establish geographically-adjusted premium rates for public option Can you say ACORN census?

Read it and prepare to be scared. I see ACORN all through this thing. Please if you are in a blue dog state contact your representatives and let them know how you feel. In fact everyone contact them.
