There are only like 23K signed petitions, I was hoping our SA membership can bump this up. We have to let congress know that this is not the time to create new taxes. New jobs we need. Please visit the site below and send a strong message to Congress to stop this new Food/Soda tax. Very short petition ( takes 1 minute ). You'll thank me later.. http://www.sweepsadvantage.com/sweepstakes-248174.html

I'm guessing that the number given on their site are from those who used "Sign up to support Americans Against Food Taxes by clicking here". The rest are probably coming from their online form, "Write your legislator and tell them you don't want more taxes by clicking here".

Just wanted to say that my views expressed in this topic "do not " represent SA as a whole and are only my opinion on this new tax matter. If you want a new food/soda tax that sponsors new gov health care that's your right. Its your money.
When people talk about politics it can often be spirited and I hope at the very least we can Agree to Disagree.
Thank You,
-Ken

I must say the same thing as Ken. When it comes to my political opinions they are just that , my opinions and everyone has a right to their own. What would be enjoyable is to discuss matters such as politics like adults. We can try and sort out our differences and yet still see someones side on the issues.
I come to SA for sweeping but a little conversation on the side can be enjoyable.

Americans Against Food Taxes is a coalition of major restaurant chains, food and soft drink manufacturers and their associated lobbying groups organized by the American Beverage Association to fight a proposed three to ten cent tax on soda, sugary drinks and energy drinks to help fund health care reform in the United States.
It's Web site states that Americans Against Food Taxes is a "coalition of concerned citizens – responsible individuals, financially strapped families, small and large businesses in communities across the country" who opposed a government-proposed tax on food and beverages, including soda, juice drinks, and flavored milks. But its extensive membership consists mainly of lobbying groups for packaged food and soda companies, chain restaurant corporations and the world's large food and soft drink manufacturers and distributors, including the Coca-Cola Company, Dr. Pepper-Royal Crown Bottling Co., PepsiCo, Canada Dry Bottling Co. of New York, the Can Manufacturers Institute, 7-Eleven Convenience Stores, and Yum! Brands. "
I'm not saying I'm for or against things just bringing to light who is behind the site.

46,333 . The way I look at this is it won't just stop at soda and sugary drinks. It will affect everyone. We will all have our taxes raised in one way or another. The rich aren't the ones who are only going to be taxed.

They actually have the whole coalition members list posted right there on the petition site. Read that first before signing the petition. http://www.nofoodtaxes.com/about/

Signed, forwarded to friends, loved this comment on main page...
“If you came up with a list of the top 200 things in this nation that could be taxed, this administration wouldn’t miss any of them.” – U.S. Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), Atlanta Journal Constitution, 5/19/09

Couple years ago the car lots were booming where I live in Florida. Now they are nothing but parking lots. There is one place in town, its kind of a crossroads. There was a big dealership on each corner. Now they are all deserted.
I hope things get better. Can't get much worse.

We've noticed that the parks aren't as crowded as they used to be, and hotels aren't booking up as much anymore. Then there was the sudden sale of and closing of Dixie Stampede; and, as far as I can see, the building is still just sitting there, and they haven't found another location to reopen. Then the people who owned the building that the Race Rock restaurant was in didn't renew the lease and now that building just sits there. Bad times and very bad decisions.

I heard a story about the Dixie Stampede that they just locked the doors one day and told people they lost their jobs. The story was that Dolly found another location for it. Seemed like kind of a bad moral decision to just lock people out with no warning.
