I'm so sorry to hear this. It's never easy it comes to pets. I had to put both my dogs down within a year of each other for almost identical reasons. It broke my heart but I had to remind myself that it was what was best for them. I'm sorry for your loss.

Oh Tammy my heart is breaking with you. I love animals and I know how hard it is to loose one. The hurt is so intense. I guess in a way maybe God gave you that kitty to help ease the pain. No of course it won't replace your best friend but it may take the sting out of it. God knows what he's doing that's for sure.

Sorry to hear about your dog – we went through a similar situation last year so I know it is not easy.

So sorry to hear about him like this, Ping Pong. I know this won't make you feel any better, but you will see him again one day. He'll be waiting for you with lots of wet doggie kisses in the mean time.

It has been another pretty rough day ~ we have done everything that we could to get our minds off of it. Jimmie broke down last night also ~ I have only seen him cry two other times, once when we almost lost his Granny and when Momma died, it has hit us all really hard. Caitlyn was up all night pacing. I finally let her take a Tylenol PM to help her go to sleep ~ she had cried so much that she had a migraine.
Yes, the kitten has helped! He is such a sweet little thing and has such a strange personality! He is really been a beacon of light for us. I really do believe that God had something to do with the timing of our kitty...it is so strange the way that it happened.
I've said it on here before, if there are animals in Heaven I am gonna have a big bunch of littermates ~lol!! I sure hope they will be there waiting on me!
I told Red on the phone last night that Scamper was a pretty pampered pooch. We bought him his own swimming pool and he loved it. We filled it up over and over every summer for him to get in and splash around. He loved water more than any dog I have ever seen. He was a 150 lb baby! We buried him on his favorite hill so he can always guard it...I'm gonna miss my baby!
Thanks everyone for the support. I really needed some kind words today, and I knew just where to come ~ to my SA family!!

I was wondering about the girls. Epecially Ashelyn. Caitlyn. Bless her heart. And Jimmie. My heart aches for all of you guys, hun.
I'm so glad about the kitty. Jimmie had perfect timing and didn't even know it. Scamp sounds like he's the best doggie in the world! I've been thinking of you guys all day.

I can't read this without tearing up because I have been where you are as I'm sure lots of us have and I know how you just can't stop crying. Our pets have such a strong influence in our lives. I cried for 2 weeks when I had to put a dog down. Hang in there

Scamper was really lucky to have such a wonderful and caring family. Working with the Humane society, I've known plenty of people who got rid of dogs when they got that big, and found out how much a dog that size can eat!

I am so sorry for you loss. You doggie was a very beloved part of your family and you loved him so much. I think you are a very strong person to put him out of his pain and i hope I will be as strong as you if I am ever confronted with the same situation. It seems to me that you gave him the best life any dog could have and I know that he loves you for that. God bless you and your family in this time of pain. You have given me so much support that I hope I am returning you even half as much. You are awesome and I hope the pain eases soon. Much love to you and your family.

I'm really sorry about your losing your dog. You know, I really don't believe in reincarnation but it makes you wander sometimes. My son's cat that was about eight years old died last Friday and you just got a new kitten. He was way to young to die. The vet thought he had a heart attack. He was laying at the bottom of my bed when it happened. It was so fast, but I just can't get the way he sounded and looked. If you told me that your new kitten was that blueish-grey, I would freak. Just keep in mind that your dog is no longer hurting and focus on your other pets and the kitten. This should help so much. I have also cried and cried.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family! I think it is no mere coincidence that Jimmie came home with the kitten that morning! It is such a good thing, that little fuzzball will really help everyone to feel better! Have you decided on a name yet?

I firmly believe that God brings animals to people for a reason...my little Tico came to me 3 years ago...he is a chihuahua, I had always wanted a chihuahua since I was a little kid because my grandfather raised them. I never got to spend lots of time with him as he usually lived far away from me.My aunt found Tico running around her neighborhood and when she took him back to the owners the guy said "you can keep...my wife doesnt take care of him anyway" so my aunt knew I was looking to get a chihuahua but couldnt afford it so she brought Tico to my house and I asked me if I wanted him...I said HECK YEAH!!! you could tell he wasnt taken care of...I mean chihuahuas are scrawny but Tico looked like a little skeleton... From the first moment I had him it was like he totally belonged with me... He is the sweetest, mild-mannered chihuahua you could ever see... He absolutely loves children and constantly wants to cuddle and give kisses to all the people who love him...and that is alot of people because he steals peoples hearts the second he meets them.Well my grandfather passed away at the end of January this year and Tico has been a huge comfort to me because he reminds me of the chihuahuas my grandfather had when I was little, and I can remember my grandpa as the strong man he was instead of the man that alzheimers had made him! Tammy I cried when I read about you losing your dog because I cant even fathom losing my little Tico...he is a huge member of my family and we would all be heartbroken to lose him or my moms yorkie Tigger. They are definitely like our children! Here is a pic of my little Tico dressed up for Christmas!

Our little kitty is a black little long haired male ~ he is so sweet, but so spoiled! I have to rock the kitty to sleep...I am so tired after not sleeping for a couple of nights now. It is such a good thing, that little fuzzball will really help everyone to feel better! Have you decided on a name yet?
Ashelyn named him Star Nova...I call him Mew. I think I dream about the cat when I sleep now because I am so worried about him. It may be shock because I don't want him out of my sight. He is suppose to be an outside cat, but so far he has slept on my chest each night I ordered a memorial rock today with Scamper's name and 1993 - 2008 on it. I feel better knowing that it is on the way. Tina ~ I hope you have many long and happy years with Tico ahead of you! You are giving him as much happiness as he is giving you ~ that picture is priceless! I was lucky to have my puppy for 14 years, it is hard to still imagine that he isn't down there waiting for me on 'his' hill!! I wish I could tell everyone of you personally how much this thread means to me! I know we all love our pets and all someone would need to do is to come in here and read this to understand just how much they touch our lives. Scamper would see me and smile ~ his smile will live forever in my heart!

Focus on kitty, keep in mind that you did that absolute right thing for Scamper and he is in a better place without pain. He didn't suffer by having him put down. And savor the memeries that you will always have of him. Your kitty really sounds like a sweetheart. My other kitty, Puma, is a real sweetheart. He is one of the most sweet cats that I have ever had. I can tell he is missing Smokey, though. The only thing that drives me crazy about Puma is his tail. It goes up over his back and is just not right. He was a rescue kitty that we found when he was about three weeks old, when we had a really bad cold spell, plus a dog was after him when we found him. If we hadn't found him, I'm sure he would have died since he was too young. I had many pets growing up. Even though we lived in the country too many of them were killed by dogs or coyotes etc. Now that I have a choice since I'm an adult whether to keep them indoors or not, they will definitely be kept indoors. We also have stray dogs, coyotes and I even seen an owl grab a cat once. When my small dog was still a baby a hawk tried to grab her. Luckily I was only about three feet from her when it swooped at her, or she would have been gone. I would have never thought about an owl or hawk until this. I had another cat, Hank, that we had to put down a few years ago. My husband even teared up and he doesn't particularly like animals. Hank would have been 22 years old in another month or so. It's so hard but it was the best for him not to suffer any longer like your dog Scamper. Know that you did do the right thing no matter how hard it was. It shows that you really did love your pet. Wherever he is now in animal heaven or whatever, that he knows this and you did do the absolute right thing. The animal shelters around here are so overcrowded that some of them have quit taking in animals and are having to euthanize so many a day. I have considered adopting one but it's just to soon. I wish I could take all of the animals home with me. Smokey was an animal shelter kitty when we got him. He was the first one to reach through the cage and try to get my son's head when we went by, so he was the one my son and I took home. I'm sorry this got to long, but it really does help to vent. I'll be thinking of you also and hope that your days will get easier.

I understand about it being to soon...Jimmie said that he would like to go to the shelter ~eventually~ and get an older dog. Right now I'm saying 'no'! It is just to much ~ I have sat up every night with this kitten rocking him to sleep. Took him to the vet today to have his first set of shots and get Revolution for ear mites and ticks. I think I will feel a little better about him being outside when we get our other kitty in a couple of weeks.
When we were at the vet today a lady had to have her dog put to sleep...it almost killed me for her. I know just exactly what she was feeling today. It is just so soon. Her dog wasn't nearly as big as Scamper was and she had had him for 7 years. I know how badly she was hurting. I told her that I would be praying for her and her family. I wish there would have been something more that I could have done for her though...

The Revolution stuff is great, isn't it? I had always used frontline, but this takes care of the enternal parasites too, and also earmites. Our cat Puma had everything when we found him, and even at his age not using but a small portion of the revolution because he was so small, it took care of everything. I was so shocked when Smokey died like that, talk about unexpected. We had always expected to lose our big dog, Yikes, first because he is an english mastiff and their average lifespan is about eight years old. He is now about ten and a half years old. Sometimes, though, he still acts like a pup, sometimes like an old dog. When we brought him home as a pup from Murphysboro, TN. he was eight weeks old and weighed 28 lbs. It will absolutely kill me when it's his time, but we know its coming. I am thinking of you, because I do know how hard it is when your pet is a part of your family. They're like your babies. Hang in there. I still cry for Smokey, but I know he is in good hands somewhere. I really do think there is a place in heaven for our loved pets and all animals.
