After 24 years at one job I have been let go.  For the last 8 years I worked from home.  I don't know what to do.  My hubby went out of town today.  I did not tell him because he was in such a great mood.  We had gone to the main office of my job yesterday for a meeting.  Everything went good.  Today I get a call at 6:00 pm that I am no longer employed.  I will get pay until the end of the year, but do I qualify for unemployment too?

Thanks for all your help

After 24 years - that is rough.
You should get unemployment, but I am not sure.

When my husband was 'laid off' after nine years we were devastated -
however, all turned out for the best - he got an even better position.

Will say a prayer for you.

I'm so sorry-this is happening all over. They recently did a long article in our local paper about a woman who was let go after 30 some years, and her search for a new job.

You've got my support. I know how being let go after working for someone so long can be hard to adjust to. As far as I can recall, unemployment covers termination that isn't directly your fault (IE: breaking of company policy, tardiness..etc) and layoffs. Good luck to you.

I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.
Take time and think about what to do sometimes the shock of things make them seem worse.
Start looking for another job right away.
Keep your chin up and dont get discouraged.

This is a prayer I said when I was out of work..
I dont know if you are catholic...it helped me..

Prayer to St. Joseph for Empolyment

Dear Saint Joseph, you were yourself once faced with the responsibility of providing the
necessities of life for Jesus and Mary.  Look down with fatherly compassion upon me in my
anxiey over my present inability to support my family.  Please help me to find gainful
employment very soon, so that this heavy burden of concern will be lifted from my heart
and that , I am soon able to provide for those whom God has intrusted in my care.
Help us to guard aganist bitterness and discouragement, so that we may emerge from
this trial spiritually enriched and with even greater blessings from God.

Thank you everyone for the kind words.  Means a lot to me.

Hubby took it better than I expected and told me not to worry things will work out.

Will keep you all updated.

Thanks again! Angel

Want to say thanks to everyone that showed their support and want to give an update.  I am still unemployed and since my company is paying me until the end of December I cannot collect unemployment until then.  I have been looking for a job that I can work from my home office as that is what I have been doing for the last 8 years, but working for the company for a total of 23 years for the company.  A smoking commercial just came on TV and I quit May 15, 2007 and I will tell you what, this stress it making me want to go back to the unfortunate behavior many of us of had or still have.

I had to give an update, respecting those who answered my help in prayers!

I'm so sorry I missed this but God will make a way for you and just remember he will always be there. I have been where you are and things have a way of working out. I know that it does no good to worry so I keep my faith in the Lord and remember to thank him in good and bad times.

God bless and you will be in my prayers.

Hang in there.
Please try not to relapse back into smoking.
(smoke free for 8 years now)
Drink lots of water, and take a walk when that urge hits!

Thanks for the continuing prayers and support.

I spent the month of November with my family down in NC.  I have also learned how to paint (not $1,000,000 paintings yet).

Starting the process now of looking for employment (what fun!)

Thanks again!

What is it that you were doing from home?  maybe you can look into jobs that offer the same benefit?

Thanks, yes I am looking at things in a positive manner now.   This has happened to me for a reason.  A reason I may not like, but have gone through troubled times in the past and it has worked out for me!  Thank you once again for your kind words of encouragement!

Thanks Tobby!  Yes God is great!  I have one more prayer to God at this time and I hope that it will be answered in the next few days.  My Cousin who had been missing since Nov 13, 2008 was found in a drainage ditch last week.  There was not signs of external/internal trauma.  They are waiting on a toxicology report.  If anyone lives in the Highland IN area, please let us know if you know anything.
