Go Cowboys!

« on: June 22, 2008, 08:55:00 PM »

I've been working for the past hour trying to get my pc to connect to the net, only to log on and find that one of my longtime idols has passed on. George Carlin died of heart failure last night. I know he's not everyones cup of tea but I've been listening to him since I was 13. When we were staitioned in Germany and I had no friends I discovered a bunch of his tapes in the base library. They kept my spirits up until I got settled in and I'd revisit them often when I needed a good cheering up. Despite his personal addictions and sometimes venomous rants he always remained my favorite comedian. I had the opportunity to fulfill the dream of seeing him perform live here in Colorado Springs but didn't get to as my tickets mysteriously disappeared a week before his show. I never got another opportunity as I was always too busy or didn't know he was performing until it was too late. I know it seems silly to be sad about a man I never knew, who was addicted to drugs and seemingly hated the world around him. But I can't help but be a little heartbroken today because a part of my life died when he passed. My condolences to his friends, family and fans.

It is sad. I loved George Carlin. Granted he wasn't for everyone. He could be really nasty. But I always thought he was a funny guy. Its so surprising to hear that he passed.

Hubster just called me and told me.  May that beautiful man rest in peace.  I loved George.  I discovered him while working at a video store during my teens.  I have many of his stand-ups on VHS and a couple of casette tapes.

George may have had a way of leaving a bad taste in various people's mouths, but he was "real" and spoke from the heart and what was on his mind.  George was never PC and for that I loved him.

R.I.P. George.
Funny, but also very smart man – his view of our world will be missed.
