Hi everyone..

So I was sitting here talking to my husband about the whole sweeping thing and what I've read on the forum.  I'm glad to hear that some people are winning something.. anything.. and others are winning FAB stuff.  But then there are posts from people who haven't won anything this year.. and are upset, like it's a regular thing.

I'm just shocked.  I haven't won anything in a VERY long time.  I think I won some shampoo and movie tickets (it's been that long) then I kinda quit.  Is there just a lot of winning going on that I don't know about that folks are more offended when they aren't winning when they are used to it?

I'd like to be offended about got getting regular wins.. I just want to get something.. anything at this point.

Just my little 2 cents.

I understand that people have their expectations of wins but in reality wins are tough and unless you are entering local contests and sweeps that are not publicized well your odds aren't that good. Some of the sweeps have 100's of thousands  of entries  some have less. The fact that you can't win if you don't enter play's some in the odds.I myself don't expect many wins for me but I know it won't happen if I am not in the game.I have gone month's without a small win, I just enter and forget and if I win  Smile  if not  Smile someone else is. good post!

Gee, I'm complaining about a slow month/year and have won 12 KFC Snackers so far... among some other things.  :-)

In general, people just want more and then once they get that, they still want more...

Personally, now I tend not to "count" the things like the KFC snackers as much in the win category as its not as big a deal, like the Nestle Crunch bars.

When I started out, they were a bigger deal...

People just need to have realistic expectations.

I have been very lucky so far this year ~ as I am adding up, I am already at about $1000.00 so far, but, I know this won't last!  When my wins slow down, then who knows ~ you might see me complaining also!  I think it is just human nature, the grass is always greener syndrom :D   I will have it again also

The more you win the more you want I quess. I was playing the winzy suitcase thing last night and I won 25 points and started complaing saying just give me the ipod already. well, my husband overheard and said. dont you win enough why are you complaing? And he was right.  I need to relax. and stop complaing because things could really dry up and then I would have a reason to complain.  you will win you just gotta keep trying. I know it gets frustrating but hang in there. good luck to ya.

   You don't deserve to win chocolate!   :P      Chocolate is the ultimate prize!    I have contacted Nestle and your coupons for the Crunch and Butterfinger Bars will be mailed directly to me!

All kidding aside, I think that people spend so much time entering that they want to see a reward.  It is sometimes hard to see others winning and not winning yourself.  Let's face it, although a hobby, sometimes we put a lot of energy into it and we all would like to see a payoff to it.

I don't enter tons of sweeps.  I only enter for what I want and will use.  So, that really limits my entries.  I don't expect to win all the time because I am very selective.  So, when I do win, it feels good.

Hope that helps.

Look for the sweeps that aren't getting a lot of hits.

I entered a one-entry Benq giveaway and there weren't that many hits and I ended up winning a $700 home cinema projector. They had 40 winners so my odds were pretty good.

I also ended up winning a $100 giftcard from a weekly entry for Shoplocal that only had less than 100 hits. Most of my luck comes from the not-so-popular sweeps.

that's my two-cents  :D

but don't give up on the big sweeps either... someone's got to win them.   you never know... you could be the big winner some day. Stay optimistic and don't give up. If you give up then you don't even have a chance.

tweaka - I started out sweeping online 3 years ago this month, and it took me 4 months to win something, and another 2 to win a prize that wasn't a "gimme"   :P

For me, it was like the dam broke, and all my hard work of entering 150+ dailies day in and day out started to pay off, and I started winning 3+ times a week.

I have won LOTS of small prizes over the years, a few middle range prizes (below $1,000) and a couple of larger ones - a $1,500 diamond watch and a laptop - and I'm very happy I've done so well.

I've been ill, so I haven't been entering like I used to, and it shows - I got used to winning 3+ times a week, and lately I'm lucky to win 3+ times a month!

I still enter my dailies most days (I usually skip Sundays, and maybe 1 other day a week) and I try to do the IW's daily, but I haven't ented a 1x or monthly in months, and I'm lucky to enter my weeklies once a month now!!!  cry

My point? Even though you can't expect to get out what you put in, neither can you expect to win like others may - you could enter an unlimited 1,000 times and the winner may have only entered 1x for example - sweeping is all about timing.

And whining

Seriously - a good whine allows you to purge any negativity you may have (from a losing streak, reading about how someone hit that unlimited with only 1 entry, etc) so you can enjoy this hobby again.

And as long as people whine with humor, I enjoy reading them!!!

Thanks for all your comments, I've just started with sweeping (about 4months ago) and have won a few snackers but nothing else.  I have been reading about peaple getting what seems to be regular wins but I now see that it comes and goes.  It gives me incentive to carry on. You can't win unless you enter, so I venture forth with renewed vigor.  I find it fun to enter, and hope for something soon, but if not I certianly get lots of interesting mail!

I'm happy when I win ANYTHING.   Haven't had a win in a long while, but always have that expectation that "today could be the day", so it makes it fun.   I don't get mad when I don't win...because really, I don't expect to be very lucky.   And I don't get mad when others win, I love to hear their excitment!!!   I guess it all comes down to expectations, and I've never been very lucky at winning, so my expectations are low   so when I do win, there's some REAL excitement!!!

Best of luck to all!!!!  :D

jmacscotland,

It also takes time to get regular wins, as for the non-instants, you have to wait for the sweeps to end before you can win.

To try to win sooner, monitor the expiring sweeps list.

At a minimum, I try to check it out the last day of month to hit those sweeps ending on the end of the month (when most sweeps will end).

Of course, for sweeps that end in the middle of the month, I don't watch them as closely and perhaps they are the better ones to enter, if others are doing the same.

I've won quite a few Members Only sweeps at this and other forums lately.  (Once I got disqualified because I was sick and didn't check my email till it was too late!)  The 2 other times -- once I was in hospital and other time I caught in the nick of time!  So don't forget to enter them too.  I also have won $100 in the instant wins so far this year.  Naturally I'm enjoying any and all wins while they last!

Thanks,  having others say they haven't won in a long time helps me to keep my perspective.  I do have a routine every day in which I do my dailies then my 24 hours, then instants, then I do indeed check the expired list every day, then go to new ones.  I really don't expect to win all the time, and usually enter for the small items anyway. Even a small token win would be nice.  But your right you can't win unless you try. Thanks

There must be something wrong with me-I still get totally excited about stuff like printing out free soup coupons-or winning something I'm not entirely sure what it is (I won an airplane navagation software package once-I did find a guy with an airplane to give it to and he explained to me what it was for laughing)

Everyone whine's once in awhile, it's normal especially in this hobby. My beef is when someone wins an awesome prize (hall of fame type of prize) and then whine's a couple weeks later that they aren't winning anything. I am still happy for them when they win something none the less, it just bugs me that they would whine so soon after winning such a great prize.

I hope you win some wonderful prizes very soon, there is a lot more competition out there so it's tougher to win. Keep being persistant!!

Good luck to all!

I can relate to what people are saying.  I enter between 600 - 800 sweeps daily & got used to winning 3 - 5 times a week.  I also was winning IW's a couple of times a week.  It's just really confusing when you enter more sweeps than you ever were and go from winning 3-5 times a week to absolultely none.  I am still optimistic that there's a big win coming up soon.  I always tell myself that if I go through a non-winning streak it's because I'm going to get a big win.  So, I'm ready to post my big win any time now.  sunny

Ah, but that's the rub miki - when you win BIG (I'm assuming here  laughing ) then that coupon/pack of gum/ringtone/etc is no longer considered a "win" because you've seen/felt what a real win is!!!  laughing

I have had some wonderful wins (my laptop is still my fave, YAY CITIBANK!!!  headbang ) and reminding myself of that win (easy to do, since I'm on it almost daily!!!) helps me through the slooooooooooooooow periods!!! Like now.  crazy tongue

IMHO, those people have it backwards - they timed it right, won BIG, now they need to get their timing back to win again - soooooo easy to lose it, hard to find it, and underappreciated when we have it  nono laughing

Now there I AM speaking from experience - I had a really good, long run of hitting IW's - sometimes 3+ a DAY!!! All the while, others were posting about how the wins had dried up, more competition, less prizes, etc.

I just have to say it:

Sweeping is a hobby that is all about timing.

Especially for those elusive instants!

IF you enter at the exact right moment, you will win. If not? Sad to say you won't. But I assure you - it's nothing personal, and those who win a lot don't have any "secrets" - they are just consistent, persistent, and patient.

The sweepers credo? Enter and forget it. Always be happy for those that win - even when they win "your" prize   - and be positive you will win.

Reminding myself of the sweepers credo is how I keep my positive attitude, and my sanity.

I really believe that if you go into it thinking you can't win, well, you'll MAKE yourself right so often you'll start believing it!!! I truly do believe you have to have a positive attitude - don't get hung up on what others are doing - just focus on entering, then move on to something else - like posting so we can get to know you!!!

Remember - every day brings new opportunities to win!!!  headbang

sleepy  Congrats to all the winners you can't win if you don't enter.  What I would like to know is how you find the time to enter 500 sweeps a day?  I am lucky if I find time for 100.  Mybe that is the reason I am not winning nada.

Everyone has a different setup geneseogirl1 - like I have a fast laptop, with the fastest speed cox offers, and roboform pro, so I can do my daily/login/24 hr/IW's (about 250+) in a few hours - less if I skip the PITA flash sweeps  laughing

If you have dial up, and/or an older comp, that will slow you waaaay down. There are things you can do to speed things up though - like deleting progs you don't use, and remembering to defrag  Smile

I've pretty much given up on entering 1x's - that saves me a lot of time because the dailys are a known, and I use robo so they go quickly.

While it's true the more sweeps you enter, the better your "odds" it really only takes 1 entry to win, so try not to focus on how many you enter - just enter for what you really want to win, change up your entry times if you are in a slump, and enjoy our wonderful hobby!!!  headbang
