Well, I think the idea is that if you pay, you're also donating to some sort of cause, so the idea is that doing so isn't simply a contest entry. If you're paying simply because of the contest, yeah, you may want to give consideration as to whether or not you're really getting value for your money.

Basically, yeah. If you read the rules more closely, most of the prizes are in what they call a "prize pool." All the other stuff is just window-dressing to make it look more fun. And playing as many as possible gets you tokens, which are also used for sweeps that are on a recurring basis.

Spotted in the news - a woman learned that she had won $3 million in the lottery only by checking her spam folder and finding a message there, which turned out to be the real thing. Bottom line I guess - whether it's sweepstakes or whatever, be sure to carefully keep an eye on your spam and...

Yeah, I got mine too and the $200 retail value definitely feels rather exaggerated. It is still a nice set, though a lot of what I got I probably won't use - for example, the cassette tape converter. I haven't even owned any cassette tapes for a long time. I may try to sell it, though.
