Can you get them at blockbuster or walmart?. once in awhile I will find a good one at blockbuster in the 4 for twenty but most of the time all they have are hollywood re hashes. blah....
I can tell you a lot of very good Asian movies that might be on Blockbuster.
You can get all of it on Ebay, it's usually pretty cheap. I know a couple of Ebay dealers who sell movies. I'll have to look up their name. You are buying from HK but I've never had an issue.
Stephen Chow's most famous is "God of Cookery" and probably will be available. "shaolin soccer" is another of his movies. I really liked "A Chinese Odyssey" which was a bit more serious and better acting. Most of his stuff is slapstick, gung fu comedy.
A great movie is "infernal Affairs" NO NOT THE STUPID BAD HOLLYWOOD REMAKE! lol. I know it won scorsey an Oscar but that was a "make up oscar" that he just got because of pressure that he's never won. If you watch the original HK one, you will realize how HORRIBLE the US version is.
"Infernal Affairs" from HK and stars Andy Lau and Tony Leung (the skinny one! lol, there are two Tony Leungs in HK movies). Great movie. IA 2 and 3 suck. No easier way to put it. lol.
"A Chinese Ghost Story" story with Leslie Chueng is a very beautiful haunting story. It's not a horror story, (sorry Completelyme! lol).
Leslie, who was called "Gor Gor" (or "brother brother" an affectionate term for gay in China) was a beautiful actor and the first openly gay actor in HK. Unfortunately, his personal demons got the best of him and he committed suicide on April 1.
Farewell My Concubine" was his most famous and one of his most beautiful performances. It won the Golden Palm award at Caanes.
"Days of being wild" is a great movie. Think of it as American Graffiti" in HK. There are a ton of stars who went on to become very, VERY famous. Leslie Chueng, Andy Lau, Tony Lueng nad a bunch of female actresses.
And of course.. the big man. Chow yun fat. Men want to be like him, women just want him. lol. "A better tomorrow" "God of Gamblers" and my favorite "The Killer"
I'm not a fan of Jackie Chan. Don't even ask me about that talentless jerk. lol.
There are also some good Korean movies I know. "Friend" "My girlfirend the gangster" and there is one about the Korean war "Taegukgi."
Probably one of the most powerful movies I've ever seen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taegukgi_(film)
Every movie I've listed is available with subtitles. I DO recommend if you ever buy aNY Asian movie, never by one that is repackaged by US distributors. Most movies are long and are often brutally cut by US distributors.
