a good day today too bad i cant use the prizes

I won a 500.00 gift card for rays grocery on their weekly sweepstakes which we dont have near us and then won a 6 pack of invisible hunter spray arv 100.00 which i cant use since i dont hunt. I guess it was a good day but would have been better if it was something i could use
 
I kind of wondered about that too. Why waste your time? And why take a great prize away from someone else who could use it? I live about 15 miles from a Ray's and would gladly go there for $500 in free groceries! I'm sure you'll give it away to a friend or charity or something anyway.
 
I really wish people wouldn't enter sweeps for prizes they can't use. What's the point?
Like the lady a couple of months ago who won a year of oil changes for a Nissan and
she didn't even own a Nissan. I have a Nissan Quest and would have loved the prize.
 
I don't know about these sweeps, but I can understand entering sweeps that have different level prizes. I often enter not for the grand prize, but 1st or2nd, etc. I am sure that most people do. If I win a grand prize and can't use, I decline and for the most part, they pick another winner. I won a trip to the Super Bowl and declined, they picked another winner, so my loss was a gain for someone. And if you feel that way it's almost like saying, I entered for the grand prize for 1,000, but won the 1st prize for $500, so I won't accept the $500. (not likely)

Are they giving you an actual gift "card"? Why not advertise it on ebay or craigslist? Sell it for $450. I'm sure someone would buy it.
 
congrats I sell most of the stuff on ebay something I get 75-95% of the value almost alwaysgc sell really well but always add the 70 cents for tracking packages and sell to us only
 
Isn't there a swap prizes area here on SA? Maybe someone will trade for something you want.

edited to add: I hesitate on some sweeps where I really don't want some of the prizes, but badly want others. Usually I'll enter, figuring if I win one I can't/don't want I'll decline and hopefully they pick another winner. Can you still decline? If they want an affie, then it's not a done deal till you fill it out
 
I have also won prizes I cannot use, but its because I'm trying for the ones on a different level..like johnsnook said.I can usually find someone who can use them and I also have friends in other states that I trade with. If the sponsor listed the sweep to include your area and there isn't a store near you, you might be able to negotiate a cash reward instead.Its worth a shot.
 
I agree with most of the posts in that I can't understand why people enter for prizes they can't use. A lot of sweepers (myself included) try so hard to win anything at all and then you hear about someone who won prizes he can't use. It's very irritating. It would be nice if tom58 would trade it on SA to someone who could use it (like boomercub.)
 
I also enter sweeps to win the top prizes even if I can't use the other prizes. I entered two separate Dollar General sweeps to try for the top prizes of cash but instead won two gift cards. Since there is no Dollar General store in my state I ended up sending them to my mom who lives in another state where they have a store.
 
My suggestion is to give them as gifts to people you know. Congrats on your wins. :cheers:
 
I have sold a few small prizes that I didn't want that were won entering to win a bigger prize that I did want. A few extra bucks always helps. I have also given a few as gifts to family members and friends. Maybe you have a relative that you don't talk with often that lives in an area with a Rays!
 
I enter lots of sweeps with prizes I cant use I may want a different level prize or the prize may be of high value. Because I can use cash anytime and I can put them on craigs list or eBay or amazon.. I am disabled and really need the extra money especially since I have taken on raising my 6 year old nephew I forgot how expensive kids can be. Be happy for the win and turn it into soemthing you can use.
 
:scratch:, Have to agree with other comments-unless there was a prize you were trying for that you could use-why try this contest. It does not seem fair to win and take away from someone who could use and enjoy and then complain about it? Sell it, or donate to homeless shelter or do something good or positive with it.
