Accepting Prizes

When you win a prize (especially large sums, cars, etc) do you have to accept right away?
Or do you have time to figure out the taxes/etc before you accept?

(Yes, I know don't enter sweeps you can't 'afford' to win. But I'm curious.)

Each case is different but the main thing is to follow instructions carefully, on time, and make copies. For the type of prizes you mention, you would receive and affidavit and a received by or postmark date (sometimes you can return by email or fax).

If possible, if you had specific questions you wanted to ask before returning the affidavit, you would want to speak to someone/email, and have the name and phone number of your contact person.
