Always something bigger and better

I think video tapes were ok. They didn't get scratches on them, like dvds do. But they replaced with dvds. Now they are replacing regular dvds with blu ray disks, etc.

Another thing I just found out, that really makes me mad is ty beanie babies, are launching a new thing, all there new beanie babies will be like webkinz, and have virtual codes etc. My mom has been collecting ty beanies since I was little, and she probably will stop collecting them if they do this. Because having that code, will probably raise the prices. Like currently beanie babies sell for 6.99 something around there. Webkinz sell for 11.99-14.99 All it is to them is making money. I think its so stupid. Oh well enough of my rant.

I bought my first VCR before you were born-those suckers were huge back then and had wired remotes. And I could use the tuner on it to hack the scrambled signals on cable to get all the cable channels, free. Those were the days. :sunny:

We had tons of vhs tapes. My dad used to rent from blockbuster, and then record the movies onto tapes.
I bought my first VCR before you were born wow you must be really old lol

My best friend's Dad bought a Beta machine ~ anyone remember those??? It was so funny because he was a preacher and he tried to erase all the curse words out of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" before we watched it. Ideally, it was suppose to say like "Indy, you Son of a bleep." but it came out saying "bleep, bleep Son of a B*t$H!" ~ which of course we thought was the funniest thing ever!! I still think it's pretty funny!

I read a newspaper article on Saturday about blu-ray disks. There seems to be some sort of problem with the blu-day disks now...better stick with the good ole regular dvds. Like the days of the Beta Max VCR and the VHS VCR....blu-ray and regular dvds have been fighting a battle to see which format consumers will like best. As for myself, I prefer the standard or hd dvds. I'm not gonna keep changing my movie collection every time some new product hits the market. DVDs, as they are now, work fine for me. :crazytongue:

Ancient. And hope to get older. One thing I used to love and miss was those little toy video cameras that recorded on standard cassette tape. You could make some cool black and white silent movies with those. I made one in art class called The Fiend which was kind of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing. The "star" recently had it transfered to DVD and we were joking about how in 5 years we'd have to transfer it to something else. He won't let me put it on youtube, alas.

Those first VCR's were enormous! I remember how the contraption raised up out of the top to eject a tape or put one in. They sure as heck took up alot of space. It was amazing how compact they got over time. The short-lived beta thing was a joke. Everyone knew it wouldn't last, and very few of those machines were ever sold. People were just not into it and weren't buying into it. That idea was gone in a flash.

We just sorted through our VHS' last night. I had so won so many dvd's that were just stacking up, and I had no room left on the dvd/cd shelves to put them in. So, we got rid of all the VHS' that we know we can get in dvd; and it gave us much more room for more. I had plenty of room to put the other dvd's in where they belonged (alphabetically) with room left to spare.

Don't forget those 8-tracks we used to listen to music on!!

I had a big, honkin' VCR you could have used to launch a missile. It was about $400 and I just had to have it! In those days, they all used beta tapes, then VHS became more popular. The tapes themselves were about $15 each, and now they're two for $1 at the discount store.

In Videodrome they used a beta cassette because it was small enough to look like it was coming out of James Wood's stomach

I remember when we had a Beta machine and tons of tapes. Boy do I wish I did now! I would put them on ebay, lol.

I like DVD, I really hope they don't stop making them. I even have a VCR attached and I have a few tapes (pick them up when I see them for .50-$2). I don't have many now, I sold tons of tapes before when I went all DVD. Now, kicking myself! I had some good movies.

Anyways, I really am tired of the new stuff because, then the "old" fades out and those of us who cannot or don't want to purchase the more expensive items.
