Why do you think (or if you know) do some companies do FB contests/giveaways to the entire US, if they are a smaller company based in one particular state with only local business?

Just curious....I entered on just now and had this cross my mind again. Only answer I can think of is for the "like".

If it says "US over 18" or something similar, mostly I enter. The internet has made us live in almost a global community -- so even though a store might be located in Boston, with a web presence, anyone, anywhere can be a customer ...

That's my thoughts on it. I might be totally wrong, and I haven't won anything through FB yet, so I have nothing to back my thoughts. :)

Good luck!

The smaller businesses that have an online presense make sense. I suspect the car dealerships that all run the same prize in separate sweeps on FB are local parts of a larger business group sort of thing. I know even the stuff we get in the snail mail (the local dealerships that host the "keys" where you get one attached to a flyer with dates to try them out for prizes) are often participating as part of a larger national promotion event, so the FB sweeps for TVs or iPads like that are probably similar.

As for other physical location specific sweeps with limited online presence who give away things that have to be used at that location but still leave the parameters of the sweeps as open to all? Catalyst to drum up a little tourism? Write off if it goes unused? I don't know. I still tend to enter them, because I do travel quite a bit.

Thanks for your input....I do think they might be looking for internet sales in some cases,...and I had forgotten about that possibility. Maybe some just want plain old publicity...regardless if the person "liking" them may never be in their area....That may be the case with the one I entered today.

The one I entered today was very small and private...not a car dealership. I imagine advertising is advertising...and something good for a business. I may know someone in that town and they may see it on my page or something like that. Just speculating.

I think twice on some of them too, but viral makes sense!
